Any and all advise welcomed.

I reload for my own rifles, (.308 win and .303 brit) but recently got this die set for my girlfriend who bought a nice new Marlin, and is learning the hard way what we already know about the cost of cartridges and just how fast a box of 20 goes bye-bye... anyways..

The seating die is supposed to crimp as well! By for the life of me I can't get it to perform this task. I've read the directions six ways to sunday and I'll be damned if I can get that die to do anything but seat the bullet. Does anyone have any experience with this set and can set me straight?? It's RCBS model #14650

Thanks!

Crimpin' made easy

For a start, crimp and seat bullet in sep. operations, seat the bullet to the right depth, usually the crimp groove, remove guts(seating stem) completely from die. Bring ram, with loaded/seated cartridge to top of ram stroke, screw empty die down on round until you feel resistance, that is the crimp step touching the mouth of the case, another 1/2 turn and you'll be crimpin' like hell.....you can play around later with the guts in to seat and crimp in one step......Ben
PM me if you're still having problems.

Good idea. I had been wondering about that with my dads 30-06 dies. Doing it in 2 steps make way more sense than trying to get the crimp and bullet seat adjusted at the same time.

Ben nailed it exactly, so thanks alot for the benefit of your experience..

Hey, what do you know, CGN has worked exactly like it was designed to. The wisdom of others passed along and the community benefits.

You can also get dedicated crimping dies. Dillion makes a taper crimp die and Lee makes a Factory Crimp die for the .30-30.

If you choose to use a conventional seating/crimp die, take care not to adjust it down too far; it will collapse the shoulder, preventing the round from chambering.

the lee Factory crimper works great.
