Howdy,
For over a year I've been using a cheap Lee chamfer/deburring tool and have had zero issues. Today, to celebrate the new Cabela's opening down the street, I went and bought an RCBS deburring/chamfer tool. I tried it out tonight and the opening of the casings were chewed up and rougher than anything the Lee ever did. Am I missing something here? I love how sturdy this tool is, but if I can't get a good result with it, I'll be hoping that Cabela's will take it back. Any ideas?
I should add that I'm using a Lee Zip Trim as well. Thanks!

You're probably using way too much force to deburr/chamfer. It's a lot sharper than the cheapie Lee one and has a tendency to bite into the soft brass if you use too much force. I use a turn and pull away kinda motion. Works for me.

+1

i bought the lyman case prep kit (link) and i pretty much just use the weight of the tool for the force during cutting.

Yeah I thought that RCBS tool looked a little rough so used way too much force at first, much sharper then I expected. After getting one of those 5 station motorized prep stations I never use it anymore. Looks like it might make an interesting sabot'd shotgun round though!

Like you. I also was satisfied with my Lee but bought the rcbs thinking it may do a better job. My lee did a great job. The rcbs------did a lousy job.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one that isn't very impressed. I will give it another shot though, and try to put as little effort into it as possible.
