I have a new hand primer from RCBS and the thing is making me nutso. After priming a case, the free floating primer rod that pushes the primer in place refuses to drop back down into the handle for another primer to be set. I use the a key from the hex key set that came with the to kit to push the rod back down, then a new primer will fall into place. Upshot here I guess is that I found a use for the hex key set that came with the kit:D. Any one else have this problem? If so, what fixes it?

Mine is the same way and it just takes some fine adjusting to make it work fine it will jam up 1 out of 20 times no matter what I try. I was told some rcbs shell holders wont work they have to be a newer style, this could be part of the problem. Not really the help you were looking for but at least you know you arent the only one.

Geez for the price of the Lee units I'm surprised every one doesn't have one, never had any kind of trouble with mine, thousands used by it. FS

My Hand primer and my buddys also jam up. But only 1 out of 20 like Kurt's. I have also had trouble with the small primer piece. Sometimes the primers flip or come up sideways. You just have to bring the primer up almost to the top to make sure it is the right way then insert shell and seat.

After you push in the tray, push the black or white piece, whichever one you are using, back the other way. What happens is when you push the primer tray in the holder is no longer centered. Center it back up and you are good to go. This doesnt happen to me much with the large rifle but happens every time with the small rifle primers.

I have the RCBS Universal hand priming tool and I really like it. It has a universal shellholder that holds all cartridge heads and it hasn't jammed a primer yet.

+2.
Additionally to that, I wipe off the rod every thousand or so primers as there seems to be a residue that builds up on them.

I have the same unit and have experienced no problems. I had the other unit before and have also had no problems.
