I have a RCBS special 5 press and it just doesn't want to operate smoothly no matter what I try. It constanly jam on the downswing ??

Anyhow from what I can tell it is near immpossible to get parts or even another RCBS press except the Rockchuker, correct ??

Are LEE or Redding presses just as good ? I only really load rifle and from what I can tell I am going to need a new press :(

I am going to loading 7X57 soon and was wondering if LEE dies or other than RCBS are just as good. My RCBS dies are excellent.

While I am on the topic where can one buy new brass ? I am going to need a bunch of stuff for my new caliber :)

Thanks for any and all help

I would call or email RCBS, they still make the special 5 and many other presses that you can buy or get parts for.

Lee and the others make good dies too.

I use a Lee press and Lee neck sizing collet diet for my 7x57. I am pleased with Lee stuff, and have used RCBS before.

I got brass from Ellwood Epps and Higginson's. Don't be picky.

interesting... but mine also seemed to bind slightly on the down swing...

I took the ram out and polished it with some ultra fine steel wool and some 10w30 about an hour of polishing and the binding smoothened out...

mine never jammed, just had a rough spot on an otherwise smooth motion.

yes I have tried this.

Could one of the arms be loose or some crud/corrosion on the ram?

hmm here in lies the problem. I moved last year and after storing my stuff for a and then getting into the new house, like a moron, I did not clean the press before getting back to my reloading and it needed cleaning. There is a small vertical groove in the piston arm which I believe is the problem. I may try to get the groove out but if I got a new arm I would be set.

My think was that getting a new arm from RCBS would cost as much as a new press ?? Besides there is something on the RCBS web site that says they will only ship to the US ?

How come a new Partner press (only) is hard to find and is the rockchucker worth the $200 ? I think I can get a Redding or LEE for less ?

You aren't likely to find a Redding ANYTHING for less, but they are worth every penny. Personally I use mostly OLD quality RCBS presses. I have some LEE and some was good and some was terrible. I have some Redding and all was perfect. Ditto Hornady. BTW I bought my first new press in 1972, a RCBS. Still have it as my #1 press.

I use a lee press with RCBS dies. Works well so far. Recently I needed dies for 6.5-06, and couldn't find any anywhere. I went on the RCBS website, and it seemed they would only ship to the US. I phoned them, and they sent me the dies. 3 weeks, but no hassles. If you do decide to get a new press, the Lee one is cheap, but after 3 years and several thousand rounds it still works perfect. If you decide to get the new part, talk to them [RCBS] on the phone and they'll help you out.
