What exactly do these dies do, I believe the claim is that after the first trim you don't have to retrim after FL seizing...if so how does this work???

I imagine it's got to do with the expander button on the depriming rod..maybe a different shape or something... I really don't have a problem because 99% of the time I neck seize only but when I do have to FL , I deprime with a universal depriming die, then run the case tru the Fl without the rod and button, but I was wondering how the X-dies work???

After an initial trim to standardize case lengths, the X-Die allows repeated full-length resizing without the case length exceeding the maximum ANSI specification. Routine trimming after each sizing is eliminated. A precision mandrel in the X-Die limits growth of the case without shortening it or causing metal build-up in the neck.

The problem with running your brass through the FL die without the expander button is that you are sizing the neck smaller than your Neck Sizing die.

Try neck sizing one case, run another through the FL sizer with no expander in it and then one with the expander. Measure the diameter of each of the 3 sized case necks. I would bet dollars to donuts that the FL without the expander will be a couple thou smaller than the other 2. This may cause excessive neck tension on your bullets.
