Whoa.

I just ordered a firearm by mail-order for the first time. An SKS from Marstar.

Yesterday, I got mail from the RCMP. My first thought was, "Holy S***! What did I do?"

Then I thought, well, maybe an old student of mine is applying.

Then, I thought, "Holy S***! What do they think I did?"

When I opened it, it dawned on my that the RCMP is issuing the registration paper now.

I expect my SKS to arrive today. The day before my birthday.

I bought some low-odour mineral spirits and a nice new pail.

BTW, have you seen this?:

Is this something new, the RCMP processing paper so quickly?

:D :D LOL, I got one last week and thought the same thing, but the green window paper gave it away. So I only had a couple seconds to crap my pants before logic kicked in.

Yea , I got one like that last week when I got my 6.5x55 . But yesterday I got one in a plain envelope for my Glock .
Seems to be no consistency to it .
So they have the SKS's in stock , Is it threaded barrel ?

Thanks for the birthday greeting. Sixty-one and everything still works.

No, it isn't threaded barrel. I think they were sold out as of this morning.

I'll tell you one thing. I've done an external cleaning so that I can handle the thing and I'm about to strip it. Now I know why SKS guys refinish or replace the furniture. Whew!

I guess, though, that at $139 I shouldn't complain. A few minutes ago, I was staring at the cleaning rod, trying to figure out how to get it out.

Now, I'm going to print out the manual I downloaded from somewhere and get to work.

Let us know if you need any info on how things go together.

And if you take the firing pin out, make darn sure you don't put it back in upside down.!
:)

With the help of Will England's pages, and the TC 9-56 SKS Rifle Army Training Circular, takedown was easy.

The design is ingenious: designed for ordinary people disinterested in weapons.

I especially like the noises of the mag, the lever, the bayonet assembly as it slaps into position.

This is my first mil weapon, so the toolkit in the stock is interesting to me, too.

Mineral spirits and CLP and a Hoppes barrel cleaning and I'm ready to go.

It's cute. But, wow is the stock too short for 5'11'' me. What's a Canadian source for folding stocks that actually fit with the bayonet? Or, what's a US source for same--priced under the export restriction?

OK. Now I must emerge from the basement and show it to my beloved--the mother of my children.

What do I say? "How much do you think this was?" "Would you like to see a historic assault rifle?" No and No.

"Would you like to see what $139 gets you nowadays?" Er, maybe.

"Here's what we'll use on the Hadjis in a few years to protect the lives of our children." Ew.

I'll work on it. "Wanna hold my Simonov?" No chance.

Yep, made for short People ;) I Just cut a notch out where the handgrip is and glued and screwed in my own pistol grip. Works great and it's SOO much easier to shoulder.

:D Bwahahaha! I selected one line, but it all had me laughing out loud. I agree, probably not the best line!

Great post v65 :) Enjoy that SKS. The Rodney Dangerfield of rifles no doubt, but I like Rodney Dangerfield too!
