I've got a New Service Colt RCMP marked and it is varified in records that it was issued in 1939. 90% finish (at least, minor scraches), grips removed once for varification, exellent bore and tight cylinder. It has the original holster but is not marked. This was my grandfather's brother's issued peice. Just wondering what it is worth.

Today, or after January 23rd? :(
Today, the Colt New Service revolvers are worth between $400 and $800, depending upon condition, caliber and provenance. They easily sell for double that in the US.
After January 23rd if the Liberal slime are re-elected, it will be worth nothing.

Joe Salter has a NWMP marked colt new service for sale for $1050 US - but it has been refinished - but that will give you a benchmark value.

Bob Adams (in the US) has an RCMP marked new service for $750 - but the condition is 60% - and another new service marked RNWMP for $1,100

Like all collector guns - sometimes its a matter of advertising at the right time and place. Excellent condition firearms as well as provenance (linking the gun to an actual person) always seem to increase the value.

Sounds like you have a keeper - hopefully all Canadians will be able to keep their handguns after Jan. 23!

Ya, I was thinking of selling it but I'm torn because its been in the family since 1939. The story is my grandfather won it in a poker game from my uncle after the war. Don't know if that is possible. Had the gun apraised last year and was told it was worth around $1600 because of the finish and crispness of the action. Was told it was the nicest example he had seen, and he could sell it to a collector tomorrow. The holster was worth a suprising amount as well. Oh, I should say that it is in .45 Colt.
