I know that the RCMP had LB No.4 rifles on issue, would anyone know if some of these rifles are still in use, as in some Northern Detachment's, or have all RCMP No.4 rifles been disposed or sold to the public, one see's the odd RCMP marked No.4 for sale, just curious, hope some knowledgeable CGN will be able to help, Thanks

Im thinking the ol' lee enfield was replaced by either the winchester 70 or the FN Fal series many many many moons ago.....like decades ago

Definitely still in use as a RCMP ceremonial rifle. Just saw one on TV the other day.

They were officially disposed of by 1964ish. I'm told that Lever arms sold (most?) of them. They were replaced in service by the FN C1s (1959-60ish), which in turn were followed by post 64 model 70 Winchesters.

The RCMP competition rifle team was issued FN C1s for a limited time, but complained about the accuracy. IIRC a special competition trigger was developed.

My DCRA No4 is MP marked.

I was told that those were loaned to them by the army (from stocks intended for the Rangers) for the (Mayerthorpe) funeral parade. They were NIW No4Mk2s.

All No4's left the RCMP service in 1964-1969 ish. I have two of them myself, in really nice shape.

Check out this document:

http://www.engbc.com/Geoff/cert0001.BMP

It works better if you right click it and "save target as" it on your computer so you can view it using Microsoft picture viewer or some similar program. It came with the last MP marked No4Mk1* rifle I purchased.

RCMP Rifles..

... The No.4s are long gone. Those in use by the "Ceremonial Troops", are those that were donated, one way or another. The C1 was never on general issue, even though a number of them were on inventory. With the departure of the No.4s, the switch was made to Winchester Mdl.70s (.308) with, in later years, some Rugers, also in .308. ERT teams also have the option of Winchesters/Rugers and probably, the odd Remington Mdl.700, in 22.250. And of course, the AR series and the MP5s ...... (and then there are always the Remington 870s with the rifle sights for "slugs" ) ....... David K.

Thanks for posting the link to the acceptance of offer document smgcon! I found both of my MP marked No.4's serial numbers on it. I had already confirmed there serial numbers in the book Arms of the Mounted Police but knowing one more detail of there history is super cool.
