I got a call from the RCMP today regarding my RPAL application. It was about 5-10 minutes and basically consisted of them going over each question on my application with me. Do the RCMP call all applicants or am I just 'special' does this mean I should expect my license sooner rather than later?

Great help Peter, You really added to this thread and helped answer the posters question.

Myself, I didn't get called by the RCMP neither did a friend of mine who I recently helped obtain his pal.

Perhaps it's a provincial thing?

I got such a phone call between when I applied for an RPAL, and when the RPAL arrived in the mail, a couple years ago.

I also got a call, not for my PAL, but when I upgraded to RPAL I got the call. Just went over the questions on the app... Target shooter or collector, any recent breakup of relationships, depression in last 5 years, etc...

When I applied for rpal I got the interview call. He asked what I wanted a restricted firearm for. I said target practice and self defence, then realized I was a dumbass for saying self defence. I was pretty much stating that I would shoot someone if need be to an r.c.m.p, I then sweated out the wait to see if it would be approved which it was.

My brother and I both did the RPAL course in April, both got calls and we also used our dad as a reference and he got 2 calls. I just signed an application for a friend a few weeks ago and just got a call for his application yesterday. I think they are calling almost everyone these days. I already had my non-restricted and still got called.

My references and I got called for my PAL a few years back.

Then we got called again earlier this year when I applied for my upgrade RPAL. I used the same references.

I and both of my references were called for my RPAL. As with the others, I was re-asked the questions on the application, plus why I wanted to own restricteds. All three phone interviews were done on the same day and two days later my approval was posted on the Centre's website. Had my RPAL in hand a week later.

I got a call but just to inform me that they couldn't reach one of my references. I told them the times they were calling was when he was working so they asked me to ask him to call them. Got my RPAL about a week later.
