This just in today through UNCLAS message traffic:

1. AS DIRECTED AT REF A, SHIPS AND SUBMARINES ARE ENTITLED TO
REPLACE C7 AND C8A2 RIFLES WITH C8A3 RIFLES.

It was directed at the Naval Boarding Party but I guess ALL C7s and C8A2s will be replaced with the A3s. Our small arms requals are done with the C7. I'm sure most people won't even notice a difference seeing as how they typically requal once per year or even every two/three years.

Finally! Short barrel rifles for boarding parties and brow guards. From time to time the other services make good decisions. The Air Force showed the Army how to design a raincoat, and now the Navy has chosen a reasonably good rifle for shipboard conditions.

When did UNCLAS become disclose on social media for all to see? I thought UNCLAS meant it is not classified so use discretion when deciding to who you disclose it to. I am probably wrong. Not trying to stir $h1t, I know that ISIS learning that the RCN is using the newest DND carbine won't jeopardize anyone, but where do we draw the line? I know there are a lot of documents where I work that would disclose how we conduct ourselves against the enemy that are UNCLAS. I surely would fry if I started posting it here.

Good question, perhaps overly cautious. Evidently the Release and Disclosure threshold of injury was not reached.

What is the injury to private or non‐national interests?

The east coast already has them. On the east coast we no longer re-qualify with the C7s anymore, only C8s. Personally I don't like them but that is just me, most people seem to like them.

On a side note the powers that be have decided to start doing away with the MP-5s and 870 shotguns for boarding party since we now have the C8s. Kinda sucks as the MP-5 is one of the best firearms I have ever seen, accurate (even on full auto), easy to use, compact, and extremely reliable, it is also much better for short range than something like the C8 (at least in my opinion). The guys on the boarding party though are enjoying it for a small while as they have been shooting the MP-5 a ton to get rid of most the ammo.

If it's UNCLAS it is of public knowledge. That said, it doesn't mean it should nor shall be posted.

But but but... Aimpoints can run for 1000 years on one battery... Why would our military choose EoTech?!

Haha, I also prefer Aimpoints for...reasons. Though my one Eotech 512 has been running strong and I love the reticule. I know I've seen lots of C8's with Eotech's on them, just curious if they're the standard issue optic or an option you can trade with the C79 or just irons or what.

Maybe the powers that be actually have a clue for once to start switching over to a carbine.

Getting rid of both of these for boarding parties is one stupid idea IMO. The newer C8A3 carbine should just augment them.

A shotgun, any shotgun, although hamstrung in range, has very specific uses that not any other firearm can fulfill. One of which is shear intimidation factor, they are called riot guns for a specific and well deserved reason. Buckshot can be bounced into dark places and through open hatches getting at the BG you cannot physically see (and he can't see you!) via ricochets. Every experienced boatswain knows this.

Some m@ron naval officer with a basket weaving degree from the university of complete idiots & a desk job probably decided this to save the Navy X amount of dollars no doubt.
Right now he's congratulating himself with his fellow officers in the mess over beers, that the steward has teabagged.
