Fog's poll got me thinking about what I carry while hunting (and what I don't). My response to the poll was a couple of days at best. I pulled out my belt (fanny)pack that is the minimum I carry and here is what was in it:

6 or so disposable shop towels
filleting knife
waterproof matches
toilette paper in a ziplock
gun registration copies in a ziplock
large ziplock (empty,unused)
medium ziplock (empty, have carried wallet in it in wet weather)
compass
two AA batteries, spare for GPS that was not in pack but should be
spare keys for trigger locks
10x25 compact binoculars
choke tube case and choke/wrench

Normally I also carry my GPS, a couple more ziplocks, some water and a couple granola bars. After thinking about this, I plan to add some other things to what I normally carry.

roll of electrical tape
tie wraps
whistle
extra knife
small wet stone
emergency blanket of some sort (open to recommendations)
folding saw
50' of 1/4" rope
band aids and asprin

This is the minimum that I carry, I have a larger pack that has more gear in it, and more still in my truck. Most days though, this is what I am carrying. I'm curious to hear what the rest of you carry, particularly those who said they could survive for years.

Yup real important to me too...........forgot once .....all I had in the truck was a container of Armour All wipes......It worked and as an upside I didn't need TP for a week........that is some slippery stuff......lol
 
for a day trip:

Rifle - + some spare parts known to cause problems.
ammo - plenty. Tracers too hehe.
one meal MRE + granola/chocolate bars + 1/2 l water.
EM blanket.
Small tarp + at least two large garbage bags

salt&pepper + one SS metal mug

WP Matches or Magnesium Fire starter. (+the ones that come with the MRE)
Compass (a good one in the jacket, a keychain one on my pants- with a whistle and one provided by the watch - least trusted.)
GPS with 2 sets of batteries
Head LED lamp. good for 100 hrs and a spare of batt.
Flashlight - uses the same batt as the GPS.
One folding knife on my belt + one fixed blade in my pack.
Fishing line - the braided ones that hold 50 lbs.
Parachute cord - 100 ft.
Water treatment pills/liquid.
First aid kit (small) - if anything serious happens - I doubt I'd be able to use a surgical one on myself.

I laminated my registration cards so I don't need the ziplock.
Binocular, tags.......

I know it seems like a lot but really isn't. Easy to carry in a backpack and where I go hunting is not really my backyard.... sooo.

the one thing I found important is not to put all in the pack.
some Items are better left in the jacket/belt.
Heard of some stories about ppl leaning their stuff against a tree - never to find it again. Redundacy just for the sake of it is useless.
 
Every pack is different for me, depends on the time of year and where I am going, and what I am doing as well.
Knife, TP, lighter, multi-tool, small flashlight,raingear, water, compass, rape whistle, couple rolls of gauze, bandaids, some string or twine - all pretty standard
 
I'm with Super Cub on the TP for the most part.

I Carry a quarter-roll, flattened, in a Zip lock "just in case" - ( and generally never use it - but none the less, I HAVE IT ! )

Three Rolls !!! - Super Cub, do you actually have time to hunt or are you all humped up, grabbing a tree, fertilizing the bush and spreading vulture scent for the most part ??? What the hell do the feed you in camp ???
 
I am with Eltorro we carry most of the same things less the tracers rounds LOL
Three methods of fire starting.
for an igniter i have cotton balls covered in vaseline.
condoms to carry water. You can put the condom inside the sock so the condom won't break open.
map of the region i am hunting.
signal mirror. A broken CD works just as well and you can look through the hole at your intented target.

instead of TP i carry baby wipes in a ziplock bag.

edited how could I have forgotten our canadian heritage, Red Green would be so dissapointed (DUCK TAPE)

there are other things but i am at work and can't remember what else i have.
What i would like to find are those laminated survival cards that i hear people talking about.

My one suggestion is to practice fire starting techniques in the comfort of your back yard. Most people can use a lighter but have trouble with those flint rods or other methods of starting a fire.

In my day pack:
-$hit tickets
-First Aid kit(survival)
-GPS (spare batteries)
-Small Maglight
-Extra socks
-Extra mitts
-Hunter orange vest
-Small tool kit
-Rope
-Large Ziplock
-Water bottle in holder
-Extra ammo
-Granola bars

This would get me through a night if need be. On my belt I have a knife and leatherman.
 
I used to carry a lot of stuff as in your list, but the last few years I really like going light, real light, Ive even started carrying a lighter rifle.

My mininum is my buck knife, 4 or 5 shells, compass, h licence, small snack and a whitetail grunt call.
