ok i have a krag sporter, good shape but its current barrel ( 6.6mmx55) is shot out......no good
so
any thoughts on re-barreling it...............i was told a 6.5mmx55 swedish mauser m38 or m96 barrel could be adapted to fit...........cost?
or
also have seen threads posted on norwegian krags being re barrelled into 308 /7.62 calibre...................cost?
or
must i find a new / ready made barrel for it..........cost?
not a valuable or collector gun...........just hate to see it in un-shootable condition.
no fun if it dont go bang......
any info most welcomed
thanks

I have one re barreled with a swede bbl
you need to make a sleeve out of the breech end of the old bbl and screw the swede bbl to that as the Norwegian krag has left hand threads
then you need to either make sites for it or scope it as the sites will be to low to see due to the extractor

I scoped mine
it was ...I think about $400.00 by the time I was done
Scope mount was $100.00

FWIW, I had one re-barreled by Bits-Of-Pieces (left-hand threads and all). I re-barreled it in 6.5x55 and it looks great aside from the cut military stock. I'm contemplating doing a second one in 444 Marlin but I haven't done all the research yet.

I don't suppose there's a source for 6.5x55 take-off Krag barrels anywhere... (is there???)

Camk: Using the threaded Krag barrel technique, I suppose you could use any '96 Swede barrel to put new life into it.
