Yes, it is possible... don't know who might do it though... one fella I used is temporarily out of business due to a move... another that I have recommended received unfavorable reports after the last couple referrals... so I am disinclined to mention him again, even though he did a nice job for me a few years back... I suspect that he is out-sourcing due to demand... I will PM another possibility.
The barrel seems too thin to re-bore, but I could be wrong. The barrel appears to be either pressed or screwed into a round sleeve than fits into the receiver, if screwed it should be and easy task to re-barrel. Just need to talk to someone who is familiar with these rifles. It would also be nice to have two barrels set up, the original and a 9.3x62 but I would probably never use the original 30-06.
Well that was bloody cryptic.
Ron Smith can either rebarrel your gun or re-bore it. You're best option is a re-bore as it means that there is very little fitting, no requirement for re-bluing and no need to re-align sights because the barrel just drops right in.
I think you re right on a reboring idea ...a little thin.
I believe the barrel has sufficient metal for a rebore... the question is the depth of any screw holes... if only the front sight holes are a problem the barrel could be bobbed and recrowned.
