So I have a question. Would you Re-barrel or re-chamber a Remington Sendero 7mm Mag? The action has been trued and bedded. Also curious on what the cost would be approximately for both?

Thanks, BH

Re chambering to a larger cartridge than a 7mm Rem Mag is possible but very limited choices as you must stick with the factory 7mm bore. Re barreling is a more popular option... many different cartridges...

What do you want to use the rifle for?

You say the action has been trued and bedded... Has anything been done to the 7mm Rem Mag factory barrel? If it is still as it left the factory, I doubt your action has been trued. Usually the truing process would require the barrel be set back a few thou to correct the slight headspace change due to the slight tolerance change in truing the bolt and action. That has been my experience. An action only needs truing once (if done right). I don't recommend truing a 700 unless a different barrel is being installed.

When I true an action material is removed from the action face and a very small amount from the locking lug recess. A very small amount is removed from the rear of the locking lugs and an even smaller amount from the bolt face. All this removal is done in alignment with the bolt throw. I charge $175, others may charge more or less. An option in the truing process is to have the rear of the bolt 'bumped'. This is a process which eliminates excessive movement of the rear of the bolt when engaging the trigger on closing the then firing the bolt. I charge $75, others may charge more or less.

Chambering, threading, fitting, crowning a round barrel blank to a 700 action is usually $275 to $325 labour depending on cartridge. A fluted barrel is $50 more. (that is what I charge - others may be more or less) The cost of barrel blanks very greatly ($500 and up is my guess) and I leave that up to the customer to source at the best price they can find.

Awesome Guntech. Thanks for the info. That was what I was looking for.
Blastattack...due to having all of the dies and reloading equipment for a 7mm mag, I would more than likely stick with that caliber.

Thanks, BH

My question would be what do you want to accomplish??

Do you want better accuracy? Shoot a different bullet? The current barrel is worn out? What you should do (if anything) is largely dictated by what you're looking to accomplish.

If you like the cartridge(which you've said you do), and it still shoots accurate enough, I wouldn't do anything. Otherwise you need to decide what's wrong with it to determine what the solution is.

so are you looking to re-chamber or re-barrel to the same caliber? I guess when I first read your post, I was thinking you were looking to go to something different, but if you are looking to stay the same, for me, it would vary based on what you have. What is the barrel you have now, it's quality, roughly how many rounds etc. With so many companies making pre-fits, I'd probably re-barrel rather then re-chamber
