Re-barreling a browning BAR .300 win mag

I have never done one, but I can see it being a little bit more complex than doing a 98 Mauser. With the barrel having to be cut for the tenon/extension, chambering and headspacing as well as the gas block having to be located and soldered, my guess is that there are few who have the time to do it.

BAR rebrl.

I had one in 300 WM rebrled to .458WM, it was done by a man in Ont. that has since moved to the US, it worked very well with spitster bullets, it did not feed well with flat nose ones, but alas i sold it I think it is in BC somewhere. It was quite a thumper 3 - 450X 's as fast as you could pull the trigger,it was about 11 pounds as the SS brl. was left at about .9 in. at the muzzle. So I know it can be done.

Dan and Pounder,
Do either of you remember the name of the gunsmith? I was just talking to a guy about .458 conversions. I remember reading that it had been done but can't remember who did it.
