re-barreling a mini-14

Asking for a friend who is wanting to have his mini-14 model 183 re-barreled to a heavier barrel.

Looking for recommendations of a gunsmith that would do this type of work.

We had a guy that belonged to our club about 25 years ago that did that. Sent it to the US had a match grade .223 barrel put on, dropped it into an Anshutz style stock, target iron sights, the whole nine yards. After spending a butt load of money on it, he had a 3 MOA rifle. Better than the 4-5 MOA rifle that he started with but not good enough to hold a 2 MOA bull.

Sell it and buy a 580 series target model. It will be cheaper in the long run and accuracy will be about the same.
