So I've been thinking about putting a new barrel on my Tikka so I do a bit or reading about it on the net. Trying to figure out cost and who would be doing it ect... So all I've read it that the Tikka is kinda a PITA to put a new barrel on, so what's the deal??? Anyone here done it or had it done??? Any idea of costs of getting this done???

The tikka's I have done were no harder to do than most other rifles really, a few were loctited on and the threads needed some cleaning .
My understanding of price for installing can vary depending on area from 150 to 250 bucks plus the cost of a barrel blank.

I've had two tikkas Rebarreled and my smith charged me the same as he did for any of the 700s that I've had him do. He did said its no different.

You probably read U.S. reviews and the gunsmith had to set his lathe for threading metric instead of imperial as Tikka is made in Finland (who uses the metric system) when most of their work is done on U.S. made rifles that are imperial.

I haven't had a barrel off of a T3 but I read they are 1" x 16tpi. Most older Sakos also have Imperial threads. Not sure about the 75's and 85's.

Some good T3 info here.

Thank you for the link. I wouldn't have guessed the barrel was threaded for imperial but that certainly destroys the possibility of dishonesty for "extra time" setting the lathe differently. Reading the document reminded me of when I wanted to have a rifle build - well, two T3s to this point. The most glaring reason was the trueness of the actions and the triggers as is...

I have never done a tikka that wasn't imperial including an old M55 that I have , tikka has a 1x16 60 degree thread on them .
Have never done any magnums though so maybe bigger on these .

The cost will depend mostly on what barrel you buy. For a barrel that is ready to install(screw in and headspace) Epp's wants $150 plus the cost of the barrel. A blank that requires finishing starts at $225 plus the cost of the blank.
Takes more than 'setting' to do metric threads on a lathe.

I know nothing when it comes to this, so how do barrels come?? I see prices range from $300-600 for barrels, are there quality differences in different makers??

what model tikka is the op re barreling? -- the M55 has a cone shaped breach/barrel face (but it is reversed from the m70 style)

Here's one I did in 6.5x47 lapua, thing shoots like a laser and no issues at all with it

Not sure about all M55's, but the take-off 308 sporter barrel I got for when my 243 sporter gives up the ghost is perpendicular to the bore and even has 308 stamped on the flat.
