Re-Barreling a Tikka, what' the deal??

Not sure about all M55's, but the take-off 308 sporter barrel I got for when my 243 sporter gives up the ghost is perpendicular to the bore and even has 308 stamped on the flat.

well my Tikka (M55 stamped action) barrel face has a very obvious cone protruding towards the bolt face (shaped like a volcano) what does your M55 factory .243 barrel face look like? Is the .308 takeoff barrel from an M55 and stamped Tikka?

(edited to add: my Tikka M65 7RM OEM has a flat breech face and no apparent "cone" - fwiw I am aware that Tikka listed both the M55 and M65 in .308 calibre - could your .308 barrel be originally from an M65? Although all this is irrelevant to the OP unfortunately :))

The take off bbl may have been off of a 595 now that I think about it more. Still made in Finland.

I peeked down the action of my M55 and it does have a raised portion around the chamber! It was near new when I bought it so didn't get the same inpection a more used one would receive... ...guess this will be the new thing learned for the day.

JUST an FYI ... robin2y ... on another thread I had to acknowledge to another gentleman that the M55 did indeed lack a sufficient bolt shroud to divert (potential) escaping gases - that might find their way to the lug races - from striking a shooters face. I "believe" that the "cone" on the M55 barrel face is an design feature to reduce the likelihood of this occurring by enclosing more of the cartridge base than might be otherwise exposed between the chamber and the recessed bolt face. If I was re-barreling an M55 - I would try to duplicate this ("cone") feature on the replacement barrel breech. Although it is unlikely very many gunsmiths would actually go to this trouble based on my experience,
