I can get a brand new Model 7 for a pretty good price, but it is in 243. I want the gun as a moose/deer hunting gun so I would prefer to have it in 308. What can I expect to pay to re-barrel this gun with a 308 barrel? Thanks for any info,

Patrick

Any 700 take off bbl would fit. There was a stainless 308 bbl in the EE this morning. 240Gord has it and is a great guy to deal with.

Fitting this bbl wouldn't be expensive.

If you want a new barrel it would depend on what kind of barrel you went for and who you chose to do the work. You could buy a pre-chambered one from Mysticplayer (his new barrel-nut style McGowan) and probably get in and out for under $500 (not looking at his site right now so my numbers could be off). If you go with a conventional rebarrel with a really good barrel and send it to a top-flight guy like Alberta Tactical you'll get the rifle back blueprinted, trued and the new barrel spun on for around a thousand bucks. Buying a take-off barrel on the EE and spinning it on yourself would be the easiest (though I've never done it) and the cheapest, costing you only the price of the barrel and the action wrench - assuming you couldn't borrow one from a local CGNer. Depends what you want to spend and what results you want to see in the end.
