Hello everyone,
Is it possible reboring a 6.5X55 SE barrel to 7X57 Mauser??
An acquaintance is offering his Husqvarna (model 1640) in cal. 6.5X55 SE the rifle is in good condition but I already have 2 in this caliber. I am contemplating to add 7X57 to my collection.
Just wondering if it's possible to rebore a 6.5X55 SE barrel to 7X57 Mauser and if the project is feasible at all??
Or I should take one of my FN mauser action in 30-06 and get a new barrel in cal.7X57 on it??
Any competent, efficient gunsmith who could do this job for me in metro Vancouver area?? I am also ready to ship it anywhere in Canada to a qualified gunsmith.

Possible, but not practical.

The chamber would have to be cut back, the barrel re-threaded and then re-bored. $$$$$

Far better off buying a new barrel, or selling the gun and buying another in 7x57.

I don't believe there is enough difference in the 6.5 bore to the 7mm bore to be sure it ends up good... but as pointed out already the chamber size kills it.

Re boring and rifling is not something gunsmiths do... it requires the skill and equipment of a cut rifling barrel maker.

You could have it bored, then neck and throated to 7mm and have a 7X55, ballistic equal to 7X57 and you could just use your 6.5X55 brass. Bit of a wildcat but gets you a 7mm from a 6.5. Ron Smith is the only guy in Western Canada is the only cut rifling guy I know of.
