Action isn't long enough. Pointless anyway as there is cheap 7.62nato available.

there's a fella that re-works garands to 338 win mag- costs 2500 us plus your garand- if you really want a magnum semi-auto , why not just buy a bar- cheaper, and already set up for magnums- be aware, though these things cost an arm and a leg to operate in terms ammo- even if you reload- you don't get more 'n a hundred rounds out of a pound of powder - besides, you goin after grizz or something-or do you just want something bigger than everybody else?- there's nothing wrong with your 305 and 165's if you know how to place your bullet

I am not a m14/M305 professional, but I was under the impressin that the 7.62x51 was pretty close to the limits of the M14 gas system.

Wouldn't a bigger cartridge just beat the hell out of the M14?
