I portray a soldier in the French and Indian War, 1756 - 1763. I have a reproduction 1756 Royal Artillery Carbine in .62cal. I am working on assembling the accoutrements for the War of 1812, I have a repro 3rd model brown Bess and an English fowler to use as a member of the militia. I have an original 1854 Lorenz rifled musket for the American Civil War. It is an interesting hobby, sort of like experiential archeology or anthropology. I try to keep clothing simple. Costs, per era, are around $1000, not including firearms, most people spend more than that
My blackpowder club participates in many local events. The only aspects I find difficult is when I am in the public eye. Last summer I was able to camp down by the water front during the Tall Ship festival, toured the ships in my uniform and with musket. Camped at our town's Fall Fair last year. Demonstrated fire lighting to school groups and let folks fire my Brown Bess. Chicks dig a guy with a flintlock;-) Today I will be setting up my camp at the McLeans National Historic Site to celebrate the Forest Festival.

I am not a reenactor, too old . But i have lent out dewats to others who have done it.
Years ago I saw Czech reenactors portraying German and Russian forces in an Eastern Front battle. Absolutely fascinating!
I also saw in Slavkov CZ, reenacting the Battle of Austerlitz on the site of the battle.

here in B.C. as far as the 19th century goes there is a group in the Lower mainland that does the Royal Engineers from 1858 till 1863. They do a very good job and are into doing a lot of research on their gear. In Victoria a late furtrade group is in the very early stages of being formed.
In Alberta I did the Riel Rebellion and there are various military reenactment groups.
As for other eras there is a very good 14th century medieval English group in Victoria. There is a good Roman group in Calgary.

you were at Slavkov for the 2005 anniversary? I wish I had the free time and the money at the time. I'm actually from old Czechoslovakia and have been hearing good things about the groups that attend Slavkov.
