Could anyone tell me please where else I might find a date stamp on a Remington P14 303, the marks on the barrel say 303 Nitro Proof and there is a crown with BM under it, now in the spot I have seen others date stamped all I can find is a arrow with the number 83 stamped. Thanks for any help, Rodger

We cannot find any numbers that seem indicative of a date, but there are MANY other markings. The chamber area being the most marked, has R, RE, NITRO PROOF, a crown with BM stamped under it repeated about 5 times, several 3 leaf clovers, a very tiny iron cross, 2 circles with a line between them, a larger stamp that says DD4, a diamond with an O inside it, 2 crossed swords with A, B, and 3 stamped around them, a larger V228, an & symbol on its own. The front sight blade has '14 on one side, 075 on the other. The top of the receiver has RE in a large circle, a crown with 86 and then an A underneath it, and several of the BM crowns. All serial numbers on the gun match.

Consider they were only made for two years,
First deliveries by Remington in May1916 followed one week later by Winchester. The first rifles accepted by the Brits in the states were in Feb 1916. Production of the M1917 was started around May 1917
so the P14 was made in only 16 or 17.

Seems the P14 got one heck of a lot more use in the second go-round with the germans.
There are pics of it in North Africa and serving with commandos, and of course, the HOME GUARD.
