For you SIG/Swiss Arms guys out there, I've got a question for you: I recently stumbled across a couple of 20rnd polymer SIG mags to fit my CQB/PE-90 at a very good price. I found out this morning why....

They had been improperly pinned to just 4 rnds each!:( I think neutering our mags to just 5 rnds is bad enough, without shorting ourselves an extra round! Anyhow, I want to re-pin the mags to the legal 5 rnd limit.

Both mags are currently pinned along the spine. I'm not sure if there is enough room to drill another hole and put in a new rivet on the spine without having the plastic break, etc...

What do you guys thing about putting the rivet along the front of the magazine, or perhaps even the side? Not the most esthetically pleasing but pinning on the front should work, hmmm? Anybody try this? Any problems with the follower tipping I wonder?

Any help, comments or advice on this matter would be welcome. Thanks!:)

I've tried pinning an AR mag on the front before - the problem was that I could still squeeze in a 6th round (not too difficult) because the follower would move down at the back.

I've also tried the sides but it was a real pain because the springs would get caught up on them.

Rear spine is the best ~

Now, you would try crazy gluing something (plastic) on the spine - but you will never be able to remove it after wards (the plastic blocker).

I got the two mags for $60.00 all in. Also picked up some extra kit, ammo, etc...he was an acquaintance of a buddy of mine and was selling off most of his stuff and pulling up stakes for Alberta (permanent move). Unfortunately, he'd sold most of his "cool" guns last week.

At that price, I'm not complaining though, as its better than a two for one deal. I may just say the hell with it and leave 'em at four rounds unless I crazy glue an internal block in. Would make cleaning the mags a major PITA though!

C7 stripper clips trimmed to length and slid up the spine of the mag limit it nicely to 5rds in the 20rd mags. To be legal I guess you would have to glue or otherwise secure the floor plate if you do it this way. The factory method is kind of goofy anyway, the glue or what ever it is in the grub screws in a few of my mags has fallen out and an allen key fits them to remove them once that has happen (and no I didn't remove the glue myself it just was either missing or fell out).

My disclaimer:

I know nothing

My thought:

What about elongating the original hole (to allow a 5th round) and putting a new rivit through it? The rivit will rattle in the 1 1/2 hole, but it would still be capped at 5

I'm thinking of something along the same lines. Drill a lower, but larger hole and then use a larger diameter rivet that'll permit a legal five rounds while having enough surface circumference to preclude any cracking of the surrounding plastic, especially around the original hole. Got some "figurin'" to do I guess before I hit Princess Auto in search of pop rivets!:)

Is there any space on the follower that you can trim to get that extra round. This is an easy fix with AR mags that are pinned to exactly 5 rounds. Just take the mag apart and file down the follower a bit so that it has a bit of slack space to enable the full mag to be inserted when the bolt is closed.

D'oh! Y'know, that is probably the simplest and easiest fix to do! 30 seconds with a dremel tool on the follower and that should take care of the problem! Mike, you're a freakin' genius!:D
