Most plating shops should have the ability to stip an old plate.
Decorative chromium plate (car bumpers) and an engineering hard chromium plate (hydraulic tubes & crank shafts) are both electrolytic plating processes.
If it is an antique revolver it probably is not chrome but nickel plated. If the piece has antique value, then replating it would decrease its value, if it's not worth a lot then I would go with the original nickel type of electroplate.
For stripping and replating, I would guess at well over $200. easy.

I work in a machine shop as an apprentice. We send quite a few cylinder shafts out for chrome (.045'' at least) and it typicaly cost approx $75.00 for a shaft 2.5'' in dia.x 19'' long, with a coupple steps. Look around, especially for places that do not specalize in one offs, they tend to be much cheeper than if you went through a gun shop. Yes they can plug up barrels and what not so that they are not chromed.

Go to the Armco website (see small banner link at top pf page).

Gunnar (Armco) does plating and his website shows prices for stripping and plating of pistols. However, as someone said, doing this to an antique will reduce its value.
