re-registering a lower to action only

Is it phone voodoo or something?

I was told that I cannot re-register my ar15 lower to action only (which is the truth... this Norinco lower sits around in the safe with literally nothing on it) if I do not have it in my hands. I have all pertinent details and registry sheet with me, but somehow having it in my hands will make it okay? When asking why I needed it, I was told that was because I needed to have it (no ####?). Is there a secret encryption on lowers that I somehow missed?

Since I work 9 to 5 monday through friday I can never have the gun in hand when the call center is opened. As a matter of fact I am venting the steam direct from work. I will have to take half a day off for this madness

They're feeding you crap...I've changed a couple of mine from rifle to receiver (in fact, I'll be doing another on Monday most likely) and I didn't have the receiver in my hand, I was at work like you...mind you I was selling them shortly thereafter but they didn't know that...if asked I just said I put the upper onto another receiver (remember you have 30 days to call in the change). Keep trying...

Do you have a video phone? how do they know you don't have it in your hands? problem solved.

i have a lower for over 10 years that i tried to change from receiver only to a rifle. several calls. they always tell me they are working on it.

it is registered, you are breaking no laws. the classification cannot change from restricted. just don't worry.

Funny, I have to change registrations like that 3-4 times a year......usually takes all of 1 minute with the Alberta CFO office (when they get around to answering the phone to start with).

.

It's all a ridiculous waste of time. What if you have 1 lower and 3 different sizes of uppers in 3 different calibers. Do you register the rifle as all the calibers and all 3 of the barrel lengths?

register as action only and store as an action

Nope, I asked that specific question last year, the reply was just register with the shortest upper you have in possession, they are more concern with overall length being shorter than what is registered.

That's cool until you get pulled over by the police and they notice you have a restricted firearm that doesn't match the cert. I see what they are saying, but that doesn't always transfer down to the police.

the length doesn't matter really. as long as it is registered. you have 30 days to notify the change, how do they know when you placed that upper on it? last night, last week, month?

It's not the length that counts, it's how you use it!

Sorry,
Saw an opportunity.

Yet another flaw in Canadas great gun control scheme. Their system doesn't support firearms that have interchngable barrels/calibers.

Hmmmm? I must be breaking the law then?
I bought a complete stag lower and put my 20" upper onto it and didn't call to tell them my restricted lower is still restricted but now it has an upper.
That's one of the stupidest things I've heard so far with our gun laws. Maybe they should tell us these things when we register the new lower.
Good thing I just put that upper on there a couple days ago;)
