Hi,

I have an opportunity to purchase a couple of restricted firearms. There is an older gentleman that I know that would like to get rid of his handguns. The only problem is that he hasn’t been a member of a gun club for years and I don’t know if he lost the registration for his guns or not.

My question is how much of a problem would it be to get these guns registered in my name if I purchased them from him? Would he get in trouble for having them illegally? I’d like to have them but I don’t want to get myself (or him) in trouble in the process.

I have read online that as long as you have your restricted and you are legal, you can re-register them without too much trouble. Has anyone done this before? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
WM

For restricted As long as he was the owner and not stolen you are good to go. Also you are able to register them if they were never registered, they will just need to be verified over the phone.
Also have all the serial numbers handy. It's easier to do with the guns in your hands, preferably at his house so ATT is not an issue...

Make sure the guns are stored as required by law then start the transfer process as usual, can't see any problems.
Post some pictures of your new /old guns.

Thanks for the answers. Guns are not stolen, just not used for a long time. I don't think he's used them for 20 years. But he use to be a member of a club. If I get them, I'll post a pic of them. Thanks for the help.
