I will post a picture when we are finished. Then we have to update our site.I posted a picture of my G3 that I just finished with a Marpat type digital finish . Be glad to help you along with your custom project.

Best way to prepare a composite stock would be to lightly sand or bead blast it to get a porous finish for the coating to adhere to. As for what product to use i will reccommend ours as it is a permanent finish that will last you a life time. Spray paints come off very easy with solvents, and scratch with just a thumbnail. We have our product priced at a very low cost which is not much more money than cheap spray paint that you buy at your local hardware store.

Nice workmanship. Any advice on painting a composite stock such as, what type of paint to use and the best way to prepare the surface?

Surface prep is the MOST important step in any paint job.

I degrease the stock, do any needed body work, and then do a final light sand/scuffing, followed by another degreasing.Even oil from your fingers/hands can affect paint adhesion.

If you have to handle the stock after degreasing, I suggest to use rubber/surgical gloves to avoid leaving traces of oil on the surface.

The depending on which type of coating you are using use a primer / pre-treatment suitable for the material you are painting.

I use Krylon & Testors Military Model paint at this time.Yes, it will wear and can be affected by solvents. The wear issue hasn't really been a big issue with my paint jobs.I use a Matte clearcoat over the paint, and this helps the finish last.I have yet to recieve a complaint about any of my work.

Most guys I know feel that wear on the finish adds character, and shows that the gear actually gets used!!!;)

What would it cost to have a Robarms M96 done just like this G3?
That looks soooo good :)

Thanks for all the info guys. How durable are these finishes when applied to the barreld actions. And can they be applied to stainless steel?

Peter - we are gearing up to do some polene T painting. We just need time.... Its probably the toughest industrial finish out there ... two part paint. The trick is putting the time into it for a decent camo pattern....
