Iam taking my girlfriend out shooting tomorrow and well she enjoys shooting the 22's i would like to add some sort of reactive targets to make it a bit more fun.

I bought one of thoughs auto reseting steel targets from C-tire to make it a bit more interesting, and was wondering what you guys use as a reactive target other than just punching holes in paper?

The shotgun hulls that folks leave laying about the range area. Fill them with sand, stand them up at random ranges out to 100 yards or so.

Or set one on the ground in close, and take turns shooting at it, until it cannot be seen or hit.

Balloons. An air filled balloon on a bit of string, does not need much of a breeze to be a hard target.

Water filled bottles or cans. Ice filled milk cartons, or a cube made in one. Add some coloring. Easier to clean up than picking up hulls or balloon bits.

Necco Wafer candies. Paintballs on golf tee's or similar holders, like a bit of rubber tube, glued to a board.
Leftover clay pigeon parts.

Gongs.

Going to depend on the safety zone around the target area, and what you can get away with doing safely.

The self reset targets can be fun, if you want them to be. one shooter shoots to set up the targets, the other to reset them. Alternate. or two shooter start at opposite ends. Etc.

Clean up your mess! :)

Balls (diameter between 2"- 5").
To avoid ricochets, they should be made of soft materials
(sponge, electric tape, duct tape, etc).
Throw them at the bottom of the berm (back stop) and shoot them.

I bought a Target Tree from WSS (mail order) I have absolutly no complaints at all, it was under $90 to my door and it a real blast to shoot.

It flips from side to side when you the paddles, the paddles are about 2", loads of fun by yourself or when "duelling" with a buddy!

I have one of those canadian tire resetting targets too, it's pretty fun to shoot.

Nothing beats a tin can on a string though. One day a buddy and I shot it with a .22 pistol until it was cut in half.

Old produce. Things like melons, apples, oranges, cabbages etc. Even more fun with centrefire rifles. A little messy for a structured range but they are 100% bio-degradeable. If you know someone who works in produce they can give you the stuff they have pulled off the shelves cuz its too old.

White peppermints on fishing line at 100 yards for my .17. Make a nice poof of white powder that is biodegradable.

You actually sit there and tie mints to fishing line? You must be a very patient and dexterous person. I like balloons out far and shotgun shells in close myself.

Moving Targets

Tie old computer c d 's from a tree branch -
The slightest wind makes them sway and spin.
They get smaller and harder to hit with every impact. :)

buy couple cases of small pop cans. Those explode spectacularly, although it make a very expensive target. 600ml bottles filled with water are boring when shot with 22. Try 308 instead - bottle will crack open like a flower, cap will fly up 100 feet in the air - much more rewarding show.
