Ready for Cape buffalo

Glad your 2 types of ammo. shoot to same point of aim. Good luck on your trip & bring us the good stories
and the pics.

Good stuff, an oft repeated misunderstanding about doubles is they’ll only regulate with one single load. It gets amusing how far folks will run with the idea who’ve never worked with doubles, as if only ammunition manufactured on a Monday regulates in a specific Monday rifle.

I found in my Merkel 140 and H&H Royal, many loads regulated, even of drastically different bullet weights and powder charges. I had a light, mono load (235gr CEB) over 60grs of H4895 for my H&H Royal, and a SR4759 reduced 235gr load for the Merkel, that both grouped in a tennis balls at 100. They even hit the gong at 200 from both barrels without trouble.

Folks who came shooting and had heard the double regulation lore repeated so often would ask how long it took to find those loads. They seemed to think I had incredible luck when I said as long as it took to load them, I just loaded them and then tried them, and they regulated.

Found the same while I had c-fbmi / Douglas’ .470, I made a load using 400gr .475 pistol bullets, they also regulated just fine without experimentation. These larger cases even often shoot to the same point of aim, as you’ve found. I found from .375 and up, point of impact changes are significantly reduced between different loads compared to smaller chamberings.

On buffalo, was one of my greatest adventures, got him day 10 of 10 finally it was a long and wonderful hunt (Zimbabwe). I used a 300gr TSX from a .375, it dropped him at the first fifteen yard shot in very thick thorns. We hadn’t intended to be that close, it just came together that way. He received insurance TSX, but it was over.

Back from the hunt, and all went well. As it turned out, the buffalo I shot was "pretty far" for shooting a buffalo with a double rifle, well over 100 Meters. The swift Aframe bullets performed perfectly as expected. The high shoulder and neck shots exited, and the one I recovered from the shot in the rear ended up stopping against the diaphragm and ribs, with 99% weight retention and almost double expansion.

Gotta like those A-Frames. They are so consistent that I quit digging for them.
