Well, I took one last run to the range last evening, just to make sure that my rifles are ready to take hunting. I shot the "crowbar" first, my Winchester built, 1916 vintage P14 in 303 British [Timney trigger, Boyd's Laminate, 6x36 Leupold] First 3 shots went into ¾" exactly 3" high, dead center. Next was the 700SSDM 30-06, practically the same result, but slightly smaller group with the 165 Partition, about ½" Then the 8x57 and the 200 Accubond. This one only managed a 1-1/8" group, but still right where it should be. The 35 Whelen with the 225 did better again with a7/8" group. It is 3¼" high, but I'll leave it right there. The 300 Savage and the 150 Partition made the best group I have shot in recent months @ .040" for 3 shots. 30-338, about ¾" with the 200 Partition. The 270, just over ½" with the 130 gr. Triple Shock Barnes. The 7x57 went 7/8" for 3 - 140 Accubonds, and ¾ for 3 - 150 Partitions. Finally shot the 6mm, it is boringly consistent, one ragged hole with 3 - 100 Partition Semispitzers, about ¼". Accurate rifles are interesting!! Now to find that Elk, Moose, Muley, Whitetail, Blackie......:D :D :D Regards, Eagleye

Your biggest problem willbe all the clanking noises you make as you hike the hills with all those guns strapped to your pack!!:runaway:

:D :D

He keeps them in a golf bag........has his wife hand him the appropriate firearm:D

Gotta love a wifey who'll lug around all your firearms for you (and then cook dinner on the campfire!). If anyone has a spare let me know!

dont ya love it when things go good without any hitches :D

got my 260 and 30-06 sighted in perfect, really gives a guy extra confidence when he's in the field

Sigh...I wish!!!! :D The only real problem is trying to decide which one will go on which hunt, but I do know that the Whelen must be deflowered this season, And the new 270 700CDL is also on the list. Also would love to drop something with the old "crowbar" The others have all taken game previously, so we'll see what transpires. Really want to try that TSX on game, everyone talks it up so much, and I've been a Partition "slut" for several decades. I already know what the Accubonds work like, I have shot a Muley, a Black Bear and a Moose with them. Regards, Eagleye.

Never truer words spoken, Mark!! Loved the young bull you guys shot, a Twin to the one I shot with my 8x57 last fall. Just Great eating!!

Just remember to post pics..I have seen what a tsx will do and I am impressed hope you are too...35 Whelen , one day right now gotta build a mtn rifle ....any suggestions??

I was out Turesday night to confirm the sightins on all mine and the 260 I used to own that I load for a buddy. The Sako AV300 win went three groups all just under an inch 2 inches high dead centre with 168 gr TSX's at 3200 fps, my Kimer 308 but the last two groups of 165 gr accubonds into an inch 2.5 inches high and my buddies 260 125 gr partitions the same. It was very satisfying, the 300 and the kimber tok some work to find the right load. I'm not sure I've ever been ready this early since before I owned more than one gun.

Find an action that you like, buy a quality 7mm barrel in a light profile, clip it at 20-22 inches, chamber it in 7x57 or 7-08. You'll never be sorry. My 7x57 is so nice to pack, fixed 6x and good lightweight mounts. Second choice for me would be 6.5x55 or 260 Rem, but just a tad less effective for bear medicine. In the 7mm's I would pack a few 175 grain SS Partitions, just for that possibility. Regards, Eagleye

I was ready to go, then I bought a new scope. The old one went on a .243 and the new one a 7mm RM. Now I have to sight everything in again with only a few weeks before heading out. Hopefully I'll have time to hit the range this weekend between duck hunts.

I love this time of year, although my wallet doesn't. :p :)

The other (more painful) problem could be should you take a tumble and one of those many rifle barrels poke you in the absolute wrong part of the anatomy :D :D

On a more serious note.....it certainly is a good feeling when hunting "tools" are all found in perfect order.

Nice work Eagleye!
Went out with my 7x57 last saturday, shot two groups through the chronograph and the target at fifty yards. Two different groups went into 5/8" and 3/4".
The 9.3 at the same setup had two overlapping and one 3/4" to the left with irons.

Pulled out to 100 yards and the 7x57 printed three into a measured .400"
Going out tomorrow to see if I can do it again. You can bet I will be keeping that little target!

154gr Interbond
Case: RP 6mm necked up
Primer: CCI250
Powder: H414, 49.5gr
Velocity average: 2830fps

Rifle is a Brno 21H, It has such a long throat, I cannot get anywhere near the lands. Short throats likely won't like this powder charge. I started at 43gr and worked up from there IIRC, don't have the info here at work.
