WhelanLad, I suspect you've learned a lesson??
I cringe every time some self proclaimed ''nimrod'' brags about taking head shots.
Every time I happen across an animal in extreme agony, with a hanging jaw, if there is one or some fool that says "it's ok, they will heal"
I think to myself, "it's to bad they don't get some of this happening to them, so they could feel the pain"
From your posts, I sense you're a very ethical hunter that's learned a valuable lesson. When you stated you found the Sambar four days later, I'm thinking you looked for that animal, expecting to find it dead. Common mistake.
Wild animals are tough and able to take a lot of abuse before lying down dead, often in extreme agony.
Thankyou for posting this and hopefully making an impression on those that just have no idea of such folly.
