Okay i tried to do some research on acog and aim point knock offs and the real thing is there any tell tale things that differ the two other than the obvious price diferences. I apologize now if its an easy solution but i would like to know. I would like to purchase a real unit but need more knowledge before I invest. Any help would be great. An explanation of each brand and differences between would be awesome.Opinions not needed, facts please.
Thanks in advance

Buy from a reliable dealer like The Shooting Edge or DS Tactical. I bought an Aimpoint CompM4 from TSE. If the deal is too good to be true, it usually is a fake. Police Ordnance carries Trijicon, I have never dealt with them though.

The ability to tell the differences varies between which factory produced the copy (some are VERY difficult to discern without having much experience with that item already, or having the real one beside it)

Logos. Many knockoffs don't have the logos in the right places, or logos at all.
Part numbers. Are they on the unit? NSN? Cage codes?
Does the reticle look correct? NV compatibles brightness settings work? Are all the accessories the 'proper' ones?
Does the unit feel strangely cheap, or lighter than the specs say it is?

It may be nearly impossible to tell (for example, many LaRue knockoffs are virtually perfect copies), so buyer beware is a big thing to keep in mind.

I'd imagine if you got a serial number from the seller you could check with the company that made it to see if it is legit.....

Many are not tracked by serial number (keeping track of guns is enough trouble, let alone all the serial#'s on optics!).

But you SHOULD be able to email the mfg. the serial number and get it checked out.
