Ok so im thinking about getting into coyote hunting next season and have an affinity for military calibers so im leaning towards the .223. now ive heard lots of good and bad about this caliber so for those with real world experience, what do you recommend for this round. ranges, bullet weight, brand, etc. rifle recommendations are welcome but i really dont want to start a flame war on choices if we can.

If your looking to punch holes in a coyote under 400 meters away hard to beat a fast expanding 52 grain or 55 grain pill.
If you can get a 1-9" twist barreled 223 then the 69 gr SMK will knock them ass over tea kettle out to 500 meters.

I love the 223 shoot it out to 1000yrds at targets mine has a 1in9 twist will stabalize the heavier bullets its alot of fun put a good turret scope and print of some drop charts and away you go I shoot it far more than my heavy cals beacause of the cost you can also buy 1000rnd pacs of american eagle ammo for 399.00 its not as accurate as reloads but its not that bad in a bolt and you can get some real trigger time in and shoot hundreds of rounds .I used mine with 55gr hornady bullets for yotes all season.
 
Accurate, fun and inexpensive ammo.

In factory loads I like the Hornady 55 gr Vmax out to 300 yds if the wind is 10-12mph or less. Federal Sierra 69 gr MatchKing if the wind is higher or for400+yds.

Just finished reloading some Hornady 75 gr HPBT, Hornady 75 gr A Max and some Sierra 69 gr MatchKing. Im going to see if I can put some legs on this FCP-K and stretch it out. Always wanted to see if a 1/9 barrel will shoot 75s.

I like the accuracy to price benefit of the Savage line. Try the fit and feel of several models and brands. Buy the best fit you can afford.

Yup... The bullets are more stable then the shooter :D

I've got a cz 527 varmint and I can get less than 1" at 100 yards with 55 grain bullets in either hornaday or federal premium.
 
i think mystic said it best.
and i wish i wouldof got a 223instead of my 22/250,mainllly for the cost difference in ammo
 
.223 in 62 grain.

Shot placement is everything. Know your bullet drop at ranges from 25 yards up to 300 and you should be good.
