What's a realistic price for a pre 64 Win Alaskan 338 mag and a pre 64 featherweight 358 both are in 95% plus condition . Thanks for any help or opinions.

The .338- $1200-1500. The .358 Featherweight is a bit of a rare bird. Probably $1800+, but I'm not sure how much + because they don't turn up too often. That's assuming original, unaltered condition.

Are you buying or selling?

$1000++++
Each

Looky is in the ballpark. The valuable ones are 270, when unmolested. If the guns have anything non oem, then the price reduces. Even different swivels, no sights, especially missing the factory butt plate for aftermarket recoil pad.

Agreed, kamlooky is in the ballpark for the 338.

Agreed on the 358 being a little bit rarer, but I'd estimate $1500 as a value.

Cheers

I sold a 95% Alaskan in all original form for $2800 about six years ago.

The market has softened on these, but $2000 for the 338 would sell pretty quickly.

The 358 is less common but I can’t comment on market value in Canada.

And there you have it... another end run around the EE.

No end run intended I am at a time in my life where I have to make changes. I have been kicking this around for some time and would like to get a handle on what to do with my collection . Thanks to all the gentlemen with honest pm's I have noted your info.

List'em on the EE with lots of good descriptive pics. The only trouble I see is your ZERO trader rating. Most folks would naturally hesitate to plop down big bucks under such circumstances.

Good luck with your endeavour .

Rarity - Originality - Condition and the state of the economy usually establish selling price. If an example has been messed with the value drops off sharply. They're only original once.

Both calibers are rare with the pre-64 Model 70.

Approx. 581,471 pre-64 Winchester Model 70's were built between 1936 to 1963 of which:

- 338 Win Mag . . approx 9,000
- 358 Win . . . . . approx 2,000
- 30-06 . . . . . . . approx 200,000
- 270 Win . . . . . approx 100,000

The two rarest calibers are 300 Savage and 35 Remington.

To establish an approx value the 338 WM pre-64 M70 has an approx. premium of 200% to 225% over an equal condition 30-06 pre-64 M70.

My Standard Catalog of Winchester Firearms 3rd Edition, published in 2016 shows the following values:

Pre-64 Model 70 Alaskan 338 Win Mag built from 1960 to 1963 in "very good" condition (92% to 97%) is $2600 USD
Pre-64 Model 70 Featherweight 358 Win in very good condition is $4200 USD with "Add 100% for 358 Win"

Order of rarity in standard calibers offered is; 300 Savage, 35 Rem, 458 Win Mag, 7mm, 358 Win, 250-3000 Savage, 300 Win Mag, 338 Win Mag, 375 H&H, 257 Roberts, 220 Swift, 22 Hornet, 264 Win Mag, 300 H&H, 308 Win, 243 Win, 270 Win and 30-06.

The suggestion of looking stateside at sites such as GunBroker will show what values people are asking and bidding for rifles on-line for. Over the past year, I have noted that values in Canada are less.
A newer edition of the Blue Book of Gun Values may show different values.

Hope this helps you.

You can't compare the US prices in their current inflated market to Canadian prices... our market is softer in CDN than the USA market in USD.
