What holds the bolt in place on a bolt action? i keep reading about locking lugs, but where are they? the bolt in my savage110 is basically one piece, on the outside, except for the face end. I don't see anywhere for the bolt to lock in place except for the bolt handle. feel pretty stupid, but am i missing something?

are there not a couple of protrusions at the end of the bolt where is pushes the cartridge? They turn in a recess cut in the end of the action and lock the bolt to the end of the barrel. I don't have a savage rifle, I'm assuming it's a basic modification of mauser type front locking, as 99% of bolt actions are...is that any help?

no, there are things i'll call wings, but they turn independantly of the bolt handle, and don't engage anything when the handle is closed. does anyone have a pic they could post so i could see these locks?

... in front of your "wings" are another set of "wings"... usually referred to as the locking lugs.... very close to that thingy called the bolt face...;)

... the locking lugs engage an area referred to as the locking lug recess. That is in the front receiver ring... the thingy your front scope mount is attached to.

The bolt face....Is that the location of the puller and the flipper? I have also heard of an ejaculator being located in this area but have been afraid to look too closely. Regards, Bill.

You got it Bill... The bolt face has a hole close to the center with the flipper and/or puller on either side of it. Sometimes a pointy thing sticks out of that hole.

I have seen some actions with the ejaculator at the rear area of that thing that holds the shells. You want to be careful around the ejaculator.

Hmmmmm..... secret gunsmith talk.... Can anyone translate? :D

This all sounds slightly erotic!!!!!!!!:adult::adult:

We are talking guns here---aren't we??????????

The 110 has a separate bolt head. That's where the locking lugs are. It doesn't have an "ejaculator", a "puller", "flipper" or "wings" though. It has an extractor, ejector, locking lugs and assorted springs.
