Hi Guys,

I bought an F-1 chronograph from Chrony last month.

The product is fine - the human element leaves something to be desired. Anyone wanting to know more can read the below series of emails

Anyone know who the owner is? I'd like to talk to him

If it is this Mandy person, I can assure you I will be looking very hard at the RCBS machine if/when I need another chronograph.

I guess my posting this here is my attempt to get others to vote with their wallets.

Fat

Ok, so let me get this straight...

So, I go to purchase a chrony, download your order form, and fill it out according to instructions

Where it says 'item #', I write in 2 - the item# for the F1 master chrony. I then subtotal my order to reflect that I want a single chrony. I send this with an email stating I want an F1 chrony.

But when the package arrives, there are 2 separate chronies present, and my credit card has been charged for two of them.

Ok, fine, someone at Chrony has obviously disregarded their own order form, my email, and the arithmetic, but anyone can make some mistakes

So, I ask to return the unused chrony, no answer for a week, but ok, everyone is at SHOT show without enough people minding the store - but eventually, I get an answer

Good, ok, things are moving forward. I am told, in writing (see below), to ship to Amherst NY. This instruction comes from the same company that shipped to my Canadian address in the first place.

So, you are saying at this point I should have spontaneously reverted to product information pamphlets, disregarded personal instructions entirely, and out of the blue sent to the other establishment in Canada?????

I'm sorry but I think I have been as patient and tolerant a customer as anyone could reasonably ask for

To expect me to declare where I live after you people already shipped product to me and then magically know to ship to the address you want instead of the one you ask for is utterly ridiculous!

Jim

p.s. - using ALL CAPS is generally considered to be the electronic version of shouting. Shouting is very rude. You should stop shouting at customers.

Hello,
In all the product information, it states that US customers ship to US , Canadian customers ship the Canadian address.

Hello,
Why didn’t you state you were in CANADA? since you dealt with the US office, we assumed you were in US.
I hope your unit does not get stuck in customs.

Hello,
I apologize for the delay, but most of our staff are at the Shot show in Las Vegas.
We have minimum staff in the office.
Please ship one of the units back to the Amherst NY address, and we will credit your account for the difference, include shipping costs, and we will credit also.
Thank you, Amanda

Hi Amanda,

I haven't heard back from anyone so I am trying again

As I say below, I was mistakenly sent, and charged for, two F-1 chronys.

I only need one

I want to return one and have that portion of my money returned

Please respond when you get this message

Thank you

Jim Davies

Hi Amanda

I received your package today

However, I received two chronys. I only want one.

If you look at the order form it asks for "Item #". Your website lists the F-1 chrony in f/s as "Item #2". Therefore, I ordered Item # 2 - F-1 chrony....

As I say, I only need one.

Does it work properly? what's the quality like, bunch of used ones on ebay for sale, can get a cheap Chinese knock off for like $60 shipped via ebay it's really a pretty simple two sensor device

I would have just sold it in the EE...Or kept the extra one, for when you drive a bullet through the first one...:)

Mandy doesn't belong in customer service.

She seems to dwell on what has already gone wrong and assigning blame rather than looking ahead to solving the problem and making the customer happy.

Not a good representative for Chrony.

That being said, it likely wouldn't stop me from replacing mine if it gets shot (again). I had to do that once already and it went very well.

My friend shot it with my 44 mag revolver. When I called them up I told lady on the phone (maybe it was Mandy??) that "I" shot my chronograph. I told her it was me because I figured she would think I was lying if I said my friend did it. There was a moment of silence and she then told me I was the first one who had ever admitted to her that they had shot their own Chrony and that everyone else's was shot by a friend or some guy at the range. I didn't have the heart at that point to tell her the truth...

Anyway, they replaced it under their 'wounded Chrony' policy for a reasonable price and I didn't have any problems.

I'd say the biggest problem with Fat's transaction is Mandy herself, aside from the intial mistake of sending him 2 units.

In their defence..

The first time I shot a hole through my chroney I took it to the mississauga factory and they repaired it for $10 while I waited.

The second time I shot a hole though my chroney... This time a much bigger hole.. I took it in. They took a look at it and instead of repairing it for $10 while I waited they just gave me a new one...

I gotta go along with most of the others; Mandy is not customer service rep material but the Chrony is a great value. If not for them the alternative would be to buy much more expensive machines. They more then ANY other company (and no, one word in capitals is not shouting) have brought chronographs to the average handloader. For that reason alone I'm willing to cut them a lot of slack.

Fat but Funky

I see your point and it must be frustrating I agree, there is no excuss for that. The only thing I can say is that it is not in character with the way Americans do business. From RV to firearm to food stores, I have never had a problem from mail to phone to E-Mail and in person , the service has always been good and the sales people courteous.

I used to work withthe owner of Chrony, testing new designs or new components. Peter is (was?) a very dedicated guy who took his business and his customers very seriously.

I have not seen him for 10 years. he was past retirement age, so it would not surprise me if he sold the company.

I will call them and see if Peter is still there. if so, i will forward your emails. Mandy is in the wrong job.

I like their product, except the case is made of a special magnetic material that attracts bullets.

7 and counting....

I don't see the problem, other than being sent 2 units, instructions seem clear enough to me.

The all CAPs comment seems rather petty since it was used for emphasis.
