Okay, I've been drooling over these KSGs for a couple years, and due to the limited supply issues and also the extensive negatives reviews I've held off in trying to purchase one. Now, the supply issue is no where near as bad(there is KSGs available at my local gun stores), and it seems that Kel-Tec has made some improvements to the KSG over the last year or so to weed out some issues.....so, can anyone tell me what I should look for in terms of ensuring that if I buy one that I am getting the latest model with the latest improvements? Also, those that bought a KSG recently, are you honestly happy with it? thanks.

I am in the same boat as you. I really love the idea of it, but with some of the bad reviews and the awkwardness of loading have put me on the fence about buying one. I would also love to hear some honest opinions as i see a lot of them up for sale on the ee.

I bought one off the EE and carried it quite a bit in bear season. Carries great, loading and unloading is simple if you have a working brain. I find it even points quite naturally but a friend of mine with long arms had trouble shouldering it. I was getting decent accuracy with slugs out of it from a standing position, recoil is a bit sharp with slugs but you can load up the tubes with shells to add weight if needed, birdshot and buckshot recoil is minimal. No failures to load or eject.

It has ruined me a bit though, a week ago I went bird hunting with a 28" barreled semi and It felt like I was carring an 8' 2x4 through the woods!

I love my KSG. The only thing you need to keep in mind is that it comes bare. You'll need at least some iron sights. The recoil is a little harsh as well. I'm currently waiting on a cheek rest and muzzle break from KSG and a recoil pad for the stock. Hopefully that will make it a little more comfortable to shoot.

Either the negative reviews I saw were on an earlier model or they were not handling it properly. The only issue I have had after over 300 rounds is the tube selector switch came loose. Easy fix though just tightened the screw back up.

One review I saw said that the ejecting shells cut up his wrist. I have not experienced this at all neither has anyone else who has shot mine.

Another review said it had feeding problems. From the first time I shot it never had an issue.

If you buy a new one you will have a lifetime warrenty. I too was a little on the fence but after owning one for 3-4 months I'm very happy and will probably never sell mine.

Mine has been great! Zero issues with running buckshot or slugs, but some sticky extraction with the cheapest shells with the steel or aluminum rim?

Would I buy it again? YES ABSOLUTELY!!!

Cheers
Jay
P.S. Here's 15 rounds of 00Buck on clay targets out of my KSG, it's a LITERAL BLAST to shoot!!!

I was on a pre-order list for years for the KSG and finally got mine through a dealer off the site; it arrived and I had nothing but problems.. Failure to extract, double feeds, selector switch not staying in the centre position to unload.. I spoke with the retailer who directed me to the warranty company out of BC, who spoke a big game on the phone; and said he was going to send me the pieces he thinks would work to fix my new gun and saying I had to do the work.. I waited weeks and the parts never arrived, I spoke with the retailer and the guy on the floor attempted to tell me since the gun had now become a warranty issue they would not return; ended up speaking with the shop manager who agreed to accept the return for a refund; warranty shop called and asked me if I was sure I didn't want to do the work myself and that he had already sent the parts.. 5 months later the parts have never arrived because he never sent them and didn't have the integrity to call and tell me that initially he had forgotten to send the parts in the first place.. I was very un-impressed and downright bitter about the whole process that involved several lengthy trips to and from the range to awkwardly try to clear out the spent shells and also try to remove rounds when doublefeeds were occurring..

I always wanted a KSG and I still do; if I could get one that wouldn't be 60 days of torture trying to fix and then send back my ksg.. I'll wait till a new generation is released then I'll reconsider it but for now I have an especially bad taste in my mouth due to the fact that the only importer of kel-tec into canada was dishonest throughout the process trying to ride out the time before my return date was passed at the retailer.

I wouldn't carry it as a bear gun I tried one it's neat but I like the traditional style of pump shotgun more it's just simpler and thinner less weight sure you get less rounds but how many do you really need?

PS you wear your arm out pumping it over and over :p

Too neat not to have.

I just traded one of my AR's for one from the new shipment and I have to say was a great trade.
Will being going to the range this sunday will let you know how it does.

I have a remington 870P max and a mossberg 590 A1 blackwater to compare it to so review will be good.

I was on a KSG wait list for months, then got an email several months ago informing me they had a KSG for me!! My gun is from one of the more recent shipments, so Kel Tec may have made some adjustments on the later guns, but I am not certain about this.

I've been playing with mine since I've had it. I 'grin' every time I get it out and shoot it.

I've shot probably 250 rounds, and 8-9 other buddies have tried it, they've probably shot another 200 rounds combined. Not one issue, no FTF, no FTE.
As long as one pumps the action completely back and forth, and don't short stroke the action, it feeds smooth as can be.

I've added a KSG cheek rest, I'm running an Eotech XPS 2.0 and thanks to Shooter1of38, I've just installed an Enforcer brake.

I haven't had a chance to try it with the new brake, but the cheek rest is almost a requirement, especially when it's cold. I tried a set of Troy BUIS on it first, but a RDS, in my case an Eotech, is a great way to go.

With heavy #2 field loads, 00 Buck, etc. it is a pleasure to shoot. After I installed the Eotech I decided to sight in the Eotech using slugs. Thank goodness it only took 7-8 slugs to get in sighted in! She kicks like a mule with slugs!!!

If you want a compact, 15 round, 12 ga pump, I'd highly suggest considering the KSG.
One day I'll add a Benelli M4 to my safe, but for half the price, I'll play with the KSG until I can stash some spare $$$ away for an M4.

You are going to love what that Enforcer does!

It is cool... but for me, my 14" 870P is a lot more intuitive and fast handling, and I already have too many pump guns. :) I'm gonna flog my KSG in the EE shortly... any LOCAL buyers (Calgary) interested? ;)

Love mine.
Only failure has been when I didn't stroke the slide back fully. It has fed every brand and type of ammo I've tried from the cheapest Wal-Mart crap up to Federal rifled slugs.
Highly recommended :D

Finally took my KSG out for some shooting. It was a *blast* and I had zero problems and zero FTF/FTE. I did like 'they' said; don't baby and rack that sucker back like a man. Was firing 23/4 1oz slugs and 00 buck. I added a Magpul AFG and it's like the two were made for each other! Kickback is less then my 870. The downward ejection is nice too.

Two thumbs up; would do it again, lol.
