reaming a chamber from 375 WIN to 375 H&H cost?

Hi guys

How much would it cost to rechamber a #3 ruger from 375 WIN to 375 H&H assuming the gunsmith has a reamer already? Would you have to take the barrel off or is this something that could be done without removing the barrel from the action?

You might be further ahead to sell the #3 and buy a 375 H&H as the 375 Win #3's are not that common, unless you really want a 375 H&H on the #3 action I guess.

I would not want to try reaming the chamber to .375 H&H without pulling the barrel and setting it up properly on the lathe.
 
Actually it's already been done. I'm trying to guestimate the worth of the rifle and was going to factor in the cost of the re-chambering.

Of course I couldn't expect to reap the full cost of the work :)
 
I haven't checked the dimensions of the cartridges but there may also have been a modification or replacement of the extractor. Guntech can probably advise you an approximate cost. I would think the barrel would be removed and set up in a lathe for a proper job.

Actually in my opinion it was worth more when it was in it's
original caliber.

The gun was definitely worth more as a 375 winchester. I can't imagine pulling the trigger on a #3 with full house 375 H&H loads. OUCH! I had one in 45-70 and the back of the lever bruised my ring finger every shot.
 
Great rifle to have around when you come across one of those idiots that claim they "like" recoil or it doesn't bother THEM !!

Then again it would be the ultimate ( small,light, fast handling, and very powerful) last chance bear gun- lets face it when the bear comes it is likely to be a one shot affair
 
375 win to 375 h&h #3 ???

don't do it..

you would have no trouble trading that #3 for a #1 in 375 h&h or probably even for a 458 if you think you need the power.

i would suggest that you shoot a #3 in 45-70 with a very stiff load behind a heavy bullet before you do the conversion. they kick hard and hurt.

sell it or trade it to someone who wants it as is.

It won't just be a chamber reaming job with any rifle. The .375 H&H is 830 thou longer in case length and is a bottle necked, belted case. The .375 Win is a rimmed cartridge just like a .30-30 and operates at 50,000 PSI. The H&H at 62,000 PSI. I very much doubt that a .375 Win barrel will handle the extra pressure.
It'd be less expensive and safer to buy a Ruger(or whatever) already chambered in .375 H&H.
