Aside from installing a regular Williams aperture sight, the other alternative is the "One Ragged Hole" aperture (http://www.oneraggedhole.com/). However, it is only a replacement for the original rear sight blade, so you'd still need to acquire a regular rear sight and replace the blade with the aperture. If you wanted to go that route, you could post a "WTB/LF" ad in the "Exchange of Parts and Bits" forum. Someone's likely to have one languishing in a parts box.

The reciever sight, is the strongest, and the most accurate option IMO.
Well, the tang sight has a small accuracy advantage, but, it isn't a strong sight, and has to be stood up prior to use.
The Williams fire sight set is pictured below

A good Williams or Redfield sight can be obtained at most gun shops (Wholesale Sports). Historically, the tang site just looks so cool - but it can be a hassle to get set up for a quick shot. In any case, good on ya for sticking to the steel sights - biggest joke I have ever seen was a 3 - 9 Leopold on a 30/30! :p

Put a barrel blank in that slot to make it look good, and then use a receiver sight in the 2 tapped holes on the left rear of the upper part of the receiver. Choices are Lyman , and Williams

The Williams is a good sight Cheeko, I have one and like it fine.

But. After many months of being out and on back order Wholesale Sports just got some Lymans in and the post man brought me one yesterday. :D

These are a bit easier and quicker to accurately adjust for windage and elevation. I got this one for my 45-70 cause the point of impact changes a lot between cast loads and full house jacketed bullet loads, and need to adjust back and forth for elevation. Plus I kind of like the look of them better :) The Lyman is about $90 the Williams about $80 and you get them from SIR in Winipeg..

edit: back to Win94; where did you get your dovetail plug? I know I've seen them somewhere but:confused:

... I've got a Williams, and used it for years. Fairly rugged and quick to use. Were I to buy another, I'd probably go with the "Lyman" just for the easier adjustments. Both are excellent choices ! ..... David K.

.......I just got the carbine from Madtrapper143 and it had the plug on it. You can have the plug for 450.00 shipped and i'll throw in the carbine free!!!:D

Hehehe! :)
Pullens in Victoria has some receiver peepers for the 30/30.
I forget if they are Williams or Lymans.

I'm mighty tempted.

I saw the dovetail slot fillers in the Wholesale Sports catalogue. About $7.00 IIRC.
I had Williams peeps on both my 94 and 336. One 5D, one Foolproof. Both excellent. I also want to try a firesight on the front. Good luck!
