Just wondering if the rear aperature sight is similar to the rear sight on the M1 Carbine,...i realize of course that both these weapons used a different cartridge.....30 cal vs .30 carbine,.and these weapons would have to be sighted in for the rd. that it used..
..i had read in a article in i believe Guns & Ammo Magazine that when Remington Arms started manufacturing the 03/a4 rifle they used the aperature sight as to save time and it was a better sight than used on the 1903 rifle.

The 1903A4 is a sniper rifle and has no rear sight. The 1903A3 has a rear aperture sight sight similar to that of the M1 carbine. It was developed because it was cheaper and better than the older M1903 sight and also because it has the same sight picture of the front line battle rifle it was issued to supplement, the M1 Garand. Hence, marksmanship training was made easier.

M1 Rifle & M1 Carbine Rear Sights

The sights are different. The M1 Carbine has a gradual angle and the 03 A3 has a steep angle, due to the velocity difference between the two rounds. I have both sights lying around here in parts and the difference is quite noticable. I am looking for a rear sight assembly that mounts on the barrel for and 03. I have everything to restore my 03, except the rear sight assembly.
