i have a '95 project that is almost complete. it started out as a complete action from a .30-40 with a shot barrel and a mint condition Russian Contract barrel in 7.62x54R.it's been put together and headspaced, and most kinks ironed out.now it just needs wood and and a rear sight. there are 2 holes drilled on the barrel for a miltary type ladder sight, but i'd like to use a reciever mounted peep if possible. trouble is i can't seem to find any on brownells or the like. i've seen some listed for the browning repros, but it says nothing of the originals. what are my options with out breaking the bank? hunting season is getting close and i might want to try this out on a whitetail.
 
There's an outfit called Buffalo Arms Co. with an outstanding selection of iron sights (among other things) and they carry a reproduction of the original Lyman sight for the 1895 that is made in, of all places, Ukraine! Don't look at it if you don't want to spend money...I think it was around $250 US the last time I looked. It comes with mounting screws that are sized and threaded for original rifles, not wannabe modern copies like mine. If you see it, you will want it. I do.

Their website (sorry, you'll have to google it) is loaded with tons of neat goodies. Well worth visiting, even if you don't want to ante up those types of prices. I don't.

Western Gun Parts in Edmonton, I think. (westerngunparts.com) STILL no online catalogue :rolleyes: (but they'll sell you a CD-ROM! Woo hoo!) Tons of stuff, though.

"...been put together and..." Bubba'd already. That sight from Midway will require drilling and tapping the side of the receiver. Epp's is a William's Gunsights dealer.
 
XS sights offers a ghost ring aperature set for the 1895 Winchester. We have them in stock for $99. It does require drilling and tapping however.
