Rear sight options for DLASK (i.e. Remington 870) barrels?

So today after blasting through 300shells this weekend I have come to the conclusion that I really need a rear sight of some kind for my 12.5" barrel. It's just too short to get a consistent front bead only on my targets and maintain consistency.

Ideally I'd like the rear sight to be simple - doesn't need to be fancy (no tritium inserts required here).

So I'd like to know where and which rear sight to get?
Also, who stocks them in Canada...

Basically I am looking for solutions - please post away (pics are even better)

Thanks!

You will need a matching front sight for your new rear sight.....

I don't agree with that statement. You should be able to put any rear ghostring on the receiver....the Dlask 12.5 already has a good front blade that should work with a ghostring rear...

I've only seen pics of the DLAK 12.5's and it looked like a low blade.....

The XS front sight on my 18 1/2 " barrel is about 11/16" above the barrel you might get away with a lower blade on a shorter barrel.

How high is the blade on the DLASK?

Just measured it... it's 1/4" off the barrel (from where the base of the sight contacts the barrel to the top of the blade).

Hmmm... suggestions? How are the sights attached anyway?

You can get a set of Scattergun Technologies ghost rings and the front sight is epoxied over the original sight.
Usually this is just a bead so I don't know if it wil fit over yours....
The rear sight will be screwed into your receiver or mounted on a rail.
The shooting edge should have some

I think my front sight is brazed on.

There are some other options out there that clamp on over the front sight as well.

Maybe do a search of Brownells to see what they've got.

Where are your shots going? High, Low, Left, Right?

What are you going to use the gun for?

Well, I wanted it to be a "do everything" gun - The problem is that I noticed this weekend for both paper targets and clays I am having a hard time getting consistent points of impact due to the super short barrel with front blade only (it also doesn't help that the 870Express is just a smooth top receiver so I don't even have a good reference to try and maintain a consistent point of reference for the front blade).

I have no problems nailing things at <10m :) It's when I am shooting >25m I am having problems; it's very easy to have the front blade too much on either side with no real reference points (i.e. rear sight); with the longer 28" barrels it's easier to sight down the rib (or use the mid bead if equipped).

I am now thinking this is going to now be more of a zombie gun, so I will definitely get some some new sights :)

Thanks for reply, gonna do some parts searching now.
~Cheers

Maybe a weaver rail mounted on top of the receiver will give you a better reference to index the front sight as well as allow use of a red dot!

The mossberg grs is the cheapest I have been able to find. They come in a set (Milarm has them). About $100.

The rear sight has a huge amount of elevatio adjustment so I imagine it should work for you.

LPA are kinda the mercedes of grs though.

Thanks Can-down, thought of the rail, but the increase in height would completely block out the front sight.

BabySeal, that is a damn fine idea. I am going to contact them tomorrow to see if they have any left - I wonder if the front sight can fit overtop the dlask one?

Weaver:confused:
Picatinny:evil:

Some sample pics of the pre-production heatreated 4140 rails, unfortunately I took the pics before I had counterbored the rail for screws and before parkerizing:

They will most definately come with mounting 4 screws (10-32 button head alloy socket hex head cap screws) and a 1/4" set screw at the front to prevent/dampen harmonic vibrations of the conventionally "unsupported" portion (where the barrel sits inside the receiver) during heavy recoil (take a look at Badger Ordnances and compare how they are mounted)

The material is preheat treated and decarb free (won't warp when/after machining and must be done in a vacuum furnace) 4140 and with specific sizing. The finish will be sandblasted and then parkerized to suit most applications and firearm finishes.

Estimated price to be 120$ shipped to most places and further up north will have to be discussed on an individual basis.
Please don't PM me just yet about ordering since these are still another two weeks from completion and have yet to talk to Greentips about dealing from this site.

I will have more pics to come in the next little while (camera suffered a little tumble and has a cracked lense:redface: )

What else is on the drawing board? Many, many things but to ease the tease the next big thing are stand off devices for breaching and muzzle brakes.

Gunsmithing 101, the front sight will need to be replaced in order to bring it in line with the new rear sight. If you simply add a rear sight you won't have enough adjustment available to achieve your zero.

The cheapest, non-tacticool, sights I can think of would be to get a Williams WGRS receiver sight and match it with the appropriate Williams shorty ramp, or their streamlined ramp if you want to add a sight hood. The WGRS sight is available with a ghost ring insert.

IIRC the original Scattergun Tech used this exact same sight when they first started building shotguns. They then basically copied, emulated the sight and turned it into a more rugged design.
