Rear sight removal - Chinese SKS

I have not dabbled in bubba-ing an SKS in many many years, but with the recent round of bans, most of my shooty shoot blasters have been relegated to being safe queens. So I thought I would buy an SKS and defile in nicely.
I am attempting to remove the rear sight and I see that it has the pin that prevents it from sliding out along the track when puching down. I have tried using a punch to drif the pin out but it is quite stuck in there. I have let it soak over night with some penetrating oil and still no luck. I have tried swearing at it and hitting it. I have now broken 2 punches and I am ready to get buck wild with the dremel and the cut off wheel. Is there any thing else I sould try before I resort to this solution?

Don't quote me on it but i thought most rear sights are one piece, no cross bar to push out side to side.
The way i did it, there's a small slit in front of the hinge point of rear sight, i use a flat head screw driver to put pressure down on the spring under the sight then as you apply pressure pull the sight assembly rearward and it should come out. From Y-Tube - "They are two types of rear sights, one with a pin and the other without. For the ones with pins, using a 1/16" punch, drift out the pin prior to removal of rear sight leaf. Easier if the stock is removed and put the barrel in a vise just before the rear sight block. … " -

Then the leaf can be depressed and pushed out, the only reason I’ve removed them was to install a magwedge rail. Otherwise there’s no reason to fully disassemble it, similar to the recoil spring. I just clean it assembled and lightly lube it, can’t say I’ve ever pulled the retainer ends off to remove the spring from the rod. One slip and boing! the spring and end caps are flying everywhere to never be found 😂

We were just discussing this in another thread, see the pics in my quoted post^^^, the ones with pins are inside the post. Make sure you are tapping the actual pin and not the post, it’s very small. I use a very small finishing nail to push it out.
 
Sorry I was wrong I should have looked further before I posted earlier.
Should have known this too, I looked at my spare parts when I got home and I have one that's one solid piece and another that has the small cross bar through it...
 
The pin was too stubborn to move. Luckly it was flush on the right side and protruding on the left. I ended up drilling out the protruding side until it was flush then I was able to slide the sight out. Classic Chinese firearms, everything is held together with grorilla jizz and insane friction. Reminds me of the days of having to take the cutoff wheel to the front sights of CQ-A's.

Probably one of the manliest sports out there, right up there with grizzly bear f*cking.
Currently the pin is flush on both sides of the post, if I ever do decide to reinstall the sight, I will just leave it as is. Unlikely though as this SKS is getting a maximum tacticool bubba treatment. I was planning on removing the front sight/ bayo piviot and threading the muzzle but with how these are put together I may just leave it.
 
There are 2 types of rear site "pins". Never had a problem, not sure why it should be stuck in there. Lots of videos on youtube. I took out 5 I believe 2 years ago when I upgraded to a wartak rail. The rear cover pin has to be grinded out though. Luckily there is a replacement if you ever decide to go back.

I'm in the exact same boat....i tried punching it out and now she's really stuck and I'm afraid the entire sight block is stuck . Someone mentioned it to take a heat gun to it and then do the good old heat and beat
 
I did mine just as described in Post#4 - The pin was a bitc h to get started but as Butcherbill said I used a finishing nail to get it all the way out, the punch I used wasn't long enuf. And fiddling with the wood clamp to get the right pressure to 'slide' the ramp out was tricky, too.
 
the pin on mine was extremely stiff, impossible to move. It was flush with the sight block on one side, and flush with the rear sight on the other. I decided to use the dremel, with a very thin grinder tip, to remove about 2mm of the pin itself, until it was sitting flush with the rear sight. I was very careful to not grind any of the sight block, added some tape all around to maximise protection.
I was finally able to proceed to the removal of the rear sight and the leaf as you can see in many videos.
In the end, the result is invisible, and you can put the rear sight back in the block without problem, it’ll behave normally, since many Sks doesn’t even bother adding a pin to it.
