I was at the Gun Club yesterday using the M93 (Colt Woodsman) and I noticed that the rear sight was loose and off centre. I figured this was because I have put about 1000 rounds through it. I loosened the locking screw and then tried to adjust the sight over to centre again but it would only go over a couple of marks and would not go any further.

To finish my shooting with the pistol I took the sight off and removed the adjustment piece and then placed it back on at centre and then using the locking screw secured it and it worked fine. That's all fine and good but I bought it with adjustable windage control and it would nice to get it working again. Any suggestions on how to repair it or if there is an after market sight that would work.

I checked Numerich and they want about 80 bucks for a Woodsman one which is about one half of what I paid for the pistol.

Likely there's a burr in the slide from the locking screw digging into the slide. Then when you try to move it over the burr catches against the screw hole. If I'm right you'd need to remove the screw, knock the sight out with a brass pin punch and hammer then smoothen the burr down with a small triangle jeweler's file. And perhaps LIGHTLY smoothen off any burrs on the set screw hole that are on the bottom of the sight piece. After that the sight will slide side to side. Before replacing the locking screw file or sand off the point or cup edges that produced the burr so it's got a nicely blunt and slightly rounded end. That sort of shape will reduce the chances of creating a new burr.

Since the pistol cost so little it would be nutz to pay for a new sight that costs half the pistol's cost. This level of repair is hardly rocket surgery so it's the sort which you could do yourself for very little cost. A set of nice brass pin punches is something you SHOULD have for firearms work anyway. So the only real cost would be the set of cheap small jeweler's files that are about $7 at most at any hardware store.
