Hey everyone,

What are the reasons for chnaging the norc flash hider for a 'real' one? What is the function of it on the gun and whats the diff between a norc and usgi or 'vortex?' one?

Thanks

If you are going to cut down the barrel, then you would have to go with a vortex or other type. The M14 flash hider has splines that fit into the barrel to keep the front sights inline. When you cut off the barrel, you no longer can use one. People get the remainder of the barrel threaded.

Some Norinco FHs are non functional, the slots don't go all the way through. Some owners want to have the bayonet lug, which was deleted so the 305 would comply with the US AWB. That is why the FH is spot welded on.

I'm trying to work out a way to put a bayonet lug on those flash hiders that don't come with them. It shouldn't be too hard to accomplish. I'm just waiting for a M14 flash hider w/ lug to come in before I start.

Norinco Flash suppressors are already reamed to National Match specs.:D

M1A & USGI Flash suppressors need to be reamed out (unless you buy a NM flash suppressor).

As to the Vortex, Ron Smith developed these for the M14 rifles as he feels the Castlenut method of attaching the flash suppressor adversly affects barrel harmonics and puts uneccessary tension on the front of the barrel.

SKBY.
