Reason for choosing 700P over 10FP??

I have researched the Savage LE's a ton and have a fairly good idea of what they have to offer, but have not done the same for the Remington 700P.... I really don't know what features it has aside form what the website tells me, which is not very much.

What advantages does this rifle have over the Savages? I am guessing the HS Precision stock is one plus..... is this a pretty nice stock or would it need replacing like the factory Savage stock? I don't mean to offend anyone.... but is it snobbery, or are there definite advantages that can be seen in the 700P over the 10FP's when it comes to fit and finish, accuracy, function, etc..? My plan would be wither the 700P and leave it as is, or the 10FP and later get a Robertson tactical stock for it.

Any inupt, experiences, or suggestions?? lol :cool: :D

The HS is one plus over a regular 10FP, but the 10FP McMillan is a plus over the HS and for about the same price. If you are going to buy the regular 10FP, you can always replace the stock down the road. On thing that I think is a big bonus over the 700, is the way the barrel is tightend with that lock nut and the barrel iself, it is heavier then a factoy 700P barrel. Personally, I would go with the Savage, I got out of f 700P and bought a 10FP McMillan and do not regret it for a moment. Now that being said, the 700P is also a top notch rifle.
 
Well I have both....700 PSS in 223/556 and a Savage 12FV in 308/762, They will shoot the same 'sub 1 inch' with ####ty surplus ammo but you can not compare the fit and finish and quality of the remington to the savage 'out of the box' .Bang for the buck savage wins....fit finish and all around feel it has to be hands down the remington 700 pss
 
The biggest advantage Remington 700Ps have over the Savage LE2bs at the moment is availability.
The Savage is a great shooter, but is limited in what is available in aftermarket gizmos, the Remington however, if you can hallucinate it, someone makes it already.
The Savage has the Accutrigger, which some like, it is a great step up from what they offered previously, but I find the feel of the Remington trigger, once set up properly to feel better. Both need to be bedded to get maximum accuracy.
When the dust all settles it still all boils down to preference of feel, pricing is very close between the 2
 
I think the Remington 700 action is unbeatable, and I guess that the reason why its used in countless sniper systems around the world.

I've owned my Remington 700P .308 Win for about 2-3 years now and I'm extremely pleased with it. I had the factory trigger pull (9.lbs) reduced to a nice 2.5 lbs, and its crisp & clean. I got a Bushnell ELITE 4200 8-32x, Harris bi-pod L, tac sling, etc. With Winchester USA 147 gr. FMJ it shoots sub MOA.

I would get the Remington 700 Police .308 over a Savage ANYDAY!!!
 
I used to have a Rem. Sendero .300wm which had the same HS stock on it as the 700.

The only thing I liked about it better than my Savage is that is was .300wm.

You can't go wrong with either though.
 
In the past Savage offerings weren't that great and quality/fit/finish wasn't there as well.

Remington had more choices in their line up and their rifles were very nicely finished.

Now come forward a few years and the roles have reversed.Savage offerings along with thier fit/finish/quality have come up to the level Remington was at, and Remington's quality has seemed to go down hill.Not to mention their warranty service sucks these days.

In the main you can't really go wrong either way.

The Rem 700 action is the most used action for custom Tactical type rifles.

It is mentionned before, but look at all the police depts. who are using all the Rem. 700 variant. Never seen one using a Savage.
 
The Remington 700 action has been around for nearly 50 years now, no wonder everyone uses it. It's like the Chevy 350-vs-Dodge 340 debate of my youth. Everyone ran the Chev, because everyone ran the Chev.

Are the 10FP McMillan fiberglass tactical stocks also bedded?

Aside the longer barrel, what is the advantage of the 10FP McMillan compared to the 10FP HS Precision?

Neither the McMillan or HS stocks come bedded. The HS has an aluminum bedding block in the stock, that the McMillan doesn't, but to obtain maximum accuracy both require proper bedding to be done.
The barrel length is the same on either model of the LE2B regardless of whether it is equipped with the HS or McMillan stock
 
If you want accuracy, and don't really care about "tactical black".....Russels has the Stainless model 12 low profile for about $750.
You get a stainless, fluted barrel, and laminate stocks are as good as synthetics for bench shooting.

Which is fine, as long as you only want varmit calibers, these are not available in 308

Sorry, I was lloking at the LE Series of rifles and SavageArms lists the FP McMillan with a 26" barrel opposed to the 24" on the HS.

I feel abit of red face coming on, being a Savage dealer, I thought I was pretty much up on product knowledge.:redface:
We have not recieved any LE2Bs of any sort yet this year, so the only HS stocked 1 I have seen was at the SHOT Show, and I did not notice the shorter barrel.
I wonder why Savage would not use the same barrelled actions for either?
Weird!
 
Personally, having owned both, I would go for the Savage, as far as quality goes, both are good, for out of the box, the Savage has a better trigger, a heavier barrel and the McMillan stock.
