Or is that an oxymoron?

Purchased my first SKS a few weeks back and recently bought a crate of Norinco (SP?) ammunition for it.

Holy sparky McBullet batman!

First rnd I shot I coudn't believe the amount of sparks coming out of the barrel, is that normal? I thought at first maybe it was blowing some crap out of the barrel (which I thought reflected poorly on my cleaning skills  ) but it kept up. Must have shot around 60 rnds and most had some decent sparkage.

Got it home and stripped it apart and couldn't believe the amount of crap in the barrel.

So basically I bought 1200 rounds of really cheap, crappy ammunition? And the best part? I still have over 1100 rnds to get through :p

Im here for ya buddy send it all to me
seriously though norinco isnt any worse than any other
i shoot mostly mfs and its a pretty good fire show
just a sks thing im thinking
I kinda like it

I put a couple hundred Romanian corrosive through my SKS and no sparks. 20cents each.
I just bought 200 rounds of the more expensive non-corrosive Norinco so will have to get out this week to see if I get fireworks.

I haven't noticed sparks out of the Czech stuff but the norinco ammo was really good for it. Come to think now I don't remember the XCR sparking that much either even with the norinco ammo. I have found that in the XCR the norinco is quite good for grouping

Has anyone tried the corrosive Chinese ammo? I heard its quite good for surplus. I'm just curious since I have a case of that and an sks on the way

Lots of ammo is dirty. Not just surplus.

It's a $200 rifle and $0.25 per round ammo. Just shoot it and enjoy it.

Sound advice.

I have some from Tradex, it is copper washed and not on stripper clips. Shoots as well as my Czech surplus and to the same POI. No sparks, or at least not an abnormal amount. Can't say it is particularly clean or dirty, I expect my rifles to get dirty when I shoot them and just clean them regardless.

I'm sure you could rid yourself of it easily if you're not wanting to shoot it. Is it the non-corrosive?

I for one would gladly help you in your time of need if you don't want to shoot it. :50cal:

The sparks are most likely from bad powder in a case of ammo that improperly stored. It will still shoot fine, as far as SKS fun goes. A rifle needs to be cleaned anyways, as one other poster suggested, Shoot and enjoy.

I've fired just under ten thousand rounds out of it through five SKS's and an 858. It's fantastic ammo and some of the most accurate surplus in this caliber I've ever fired.

It's filthy, though, but you should be expecting that.
