Rebarrel 686 question

I can get a 686 for free, but it is prohib and I need a longer bbl to have it. Any suggestions?

Gun is in S.Ontario.

get the present owner to rebarrel it at your expense, then he can get it re-registered as "restricted" then he can transfer it to you.
If you were in USA just mail it to Smith&Wesson, but this x-border stuff may not be practicable for "prisoners of Canada".

I can't remember the exact cost... but it wasn't cheap. My particular rebarrel job was to replace a 4" with a 6" barrel in .41 Magnum on a S&W "N" frame Model 57. The barrel alone wasn't cheap. Then while the wheelgun was at MD Charlton I had him also do a "distinguished tune" on the revolver. Came back slicker that "you now what"... but I bet with everything it cost me > $300.

On the up-side, MD Charlton does great work with S&W's, though...

a new barrel is $110 at brownells, just get the import permit and wait for it. Install should run $100-150
