ok
i have a 1912 norwegian krag complete barreled action.......BUT ......with a totally shot out barrel.

i wish to rebarrel it. THEN make a stock, ect.

i have heard that swedish mauser m38 or m96 barrels could be altered / re threaded and used for rebarrelling a krag.
ANY ONE TRY THIS ??

ANY OTHER IDEAS / COMMENTS .

i know the norway krags have a left handed thread .
thanks ...........
:)

i have seen discussions on krags being rebarrelled to MANY CALIBRES .......308 / 243 ECT.

I WOULD PREFER TO STAY IN THE ORIGINAL 6.5X55

( thats why my question about the swedish mauser barrels being used )

IF I CARRY ON WITH SUCH A PROJECT.

stock would be discussed after the barrel if i can get 1 or alter something to fit.

The Norwegian Krag barrel is threaded 12tpi sq. LH. the shank dia. is 1.050". The small ring mauser shank dia. is.980" and the one i have isn`t large enough forward of the shoulder to fit. You need to find a barrel with a large enough shank to fit the krag action.

Alot of the American Krags were converted to singleshot 22 hornets, really nice when Griffen & Howe did them! Also was popular before WW2 to rebarrel to 35 Winchester, 22 Krag, 35 Krag and bunch others based on necking up or down the Krag case! I know I did not add one iota to your question, just thought it would add to this post!

cheers Dale Z!

It would be more work to fit a Swedish Mauser barrel than to fit a new barrel. Fitting a new Barrel is no problem. Regards, Bill.

A couple years back I had a Norwegian Krag rebarrelled in 6.5x55 by Bits of Pieces. The barrel was a bit wider than military but it was a nice job.

can i ask what cost ??
does new barrel have same military look or a sporter?
i am seeking a replacement to look as close as possible to military as i can.

I probably could've matched the barrel contour a bit better...All in it was less than $500 but I was just looking to shoot it not necessarily restore it. I think they could make it look close-the military barrel doesn't have any steps to it anyhow.
